Gabby clearly getting his energy back after his covid bout. Don’t think you can appreciate how this vile disease can affect you.
He’s a wonderful player - who should not be compared with Kun as they’re very different players. Gabby scores goals but his overall work rate is amazing & we need that under Pep’s way of playing.
Hope he stays for years. He’s very young & will only get better.

Absolutely sublime touch, turn and finish for his goal. He was in the right place and did exactly what we want him to do, and then some, in that moment.

Hopefully it translates against higher caliber opposition. The problem is that against a PL side, or a CL side, you just don’t get that time or space to take a touch and strike in the box. You can guarantee that a title challenger has the quality CBs that can deal with that, or a bottom half side packs the box and restricts the space.

The one thing that pleased me was that he was there to capitalise on the chance, and I think that’s the main thing he needs to work at, particularly at being more consistent on.

The Gundogan cross (which btw was perfect) is the sort of opportunity that you need your striker to at least be there to make a play at. I’ll need to watch it back, but I don’t even think Jesus was in the box.

It might be a product of him not having the service, particularly in the early stages of this season, and feeling he needs to drop to get a touch of the ball, but he needs to be then following up that good hard work and industry by getting into the box.

I don’t know whether he’s just too selfless - but we need him to want to be getting into the box, to claim the spoils of his hard work, and grab himself (and the team) the goals his hard work should be earning.

Then again, maybe he’s playing exactly the role Pep wants him to play, and we’re all just mere mortals. Probably that tbf.
There were a couple of low crosses at pace from Mendy that were begging for a quality striker to poke in. No one was in the box to finish them . The other side of it is Jesus was acting as an overload in midfield to win the ball back. Next season if we get a top striker and Jesus is one of that group of ball winning creative midfielders then we'll be even more deadly.

IMO Jesus just needs more time on the pitch to work out that balance of being deep while also getting on the end of moves, if he just stays fit and keeps playing then it will click at some point although the team needs to help as well. If you watch Spurs, when Kane drops deep and starts a move, they don't fire in a cross before he's had a chance to make up the distance, they will play an extra pass and Kane gets another 5 seconds to arrive into the box.

Our side doesn't do that with Jesus, and back in 2017/18/19 that was less of a problem because Sterling and Sané would hit the box for the near/far post run. Torres and Mahrez don't make those runs at all, and Sterling doesn't do it on the left.

There was a stretch when Aguero was doing the same thing as Jesus, he was trying to convince Pep he was capable of doing the dirty work so much that he wasn't getting on the end of chances and scored something like 6 league goals in 6 months in 16/17. Now Jesus has to get that balance right again and do less work in midfield and get in the box more.

His work of the ball often goes unnoticed, but the amount of space he affords others is unreal. Bit more fitness and a good dollop of self belief and he'll be a top class striker.

That is the prolem with watching football on television , if you watch this lad live in the flesh you can see the hardwork he does off the ball , i am glad we have football on TV at the moment but you cannot get a true feel for some games or players , you have to be there.
