You're just being cynical for no good reason.
If Mendy took a hit and started bleeding profusely from the point of contact in a midweek game and then missed the weekend game with the reason given as being an injury specific to the part of his body we saw him bleeding from then I'd be inclined to believe that reason. A Polaroid of him topless in bed with a woman isn't going to change that.
And yes, I am being silly because that whole chain of thought is silly.
