9 | Khadija Shaw

How much more are Chelsea offering or Arsenal then? Women’s footballers don’t get paid a fortune like the men so 5k a week more will be a lot to you! But expect it’s a lot more or Man City would offer very very close to what another club is! Bunny be on a free so maybe she is getting a big signing fee!?

Reports are saying that theyr'e offering her £1m a year. It sounds like City might have actually come somewhere close to that but Chelsea are also offering her a longer contract which is a sticking point.

I dont want a massive % of our wage budget being spent on washed up 34 year olds stuck on the bench further down the line. I'd watch United men if i was into that.

Wish her nothing but the best. She deserves every penny she can get.

Guessing they can afford it as Sam Kerr is leaving and will be on a wedge as would Milly Bright.

Giving 2-3 players’ salary to one player is quite a risk though.

A decent analyst online has suggested Selina Cerci as a good replacement (if it comes to it). She's 26, top scorer in Germany (for Hoffenheim) and apparently hoping for a move to the WSL, although Liverpool are heavily linked.

The sooner the decision with Shaw is sorted the better, whichever way it goes.

****’s trick having re-released news a day after winning the league.
He clearly had the story and was waiting on the max moment to release it. Sounds like from Shaw's agent or Chelsea's side of things given we are due to play them in 2 days time in a semi final.

To be fair Bunny shaw has given us some great years goals! So she wants a payday you can’t blame her life changing for her seeing that probably got 4/5 years max left!

Don’t know the stats for women’s football but do they retire or end there playing days a lot sooner than the men!?

Despite winning the title there is some re-building to do. I suggest we need a new goalkeeper and 2 new centre-backs if we are going to make any impact in Europe. Whilst Shaw offers goals she also misses a hell of a lot

As shit as this news is (and I’m probably looking for excuses to tell myself this is all fine) I think I’m okay with it. Yes, she scores goals. A stupid about of them at that.

However, as a footballer, outside of scoring we could do better that compliments the team well. When Bunny is having a bad game or hardly running round, it’s like playing with 10. I’d be thrilled if she signed but on the flip side, if we can replace her with someone younger who scores even half the amount of goals who helps link play with our midfield, would we be better off for it?

If the club can find a striker who is clinical, the team should be OK without Shaw, mostly because Miedema and Hemp are so good at creating chances for Shaw--or any striker. Fowler is a very good attacking player, but hasn't she almost always played wide? The team will miss Shaw's physicality and size--and, perhaps most of all, her heading ability. She scores a lot of goals with her noggin'---and with her size and height is very hard to defend in the box.

I like Yamashita as a keeper; don't see the need for another. I do think Keating has always been overrated. The team needs another good centerback.

Disappointing to hear this, especially as today started off in a celebratory mood.
A shame especially as she has done so well for us and we will have champs league football next year and should be looking to strengthen the team. I do hope this doesn't mean Beth Mead will be arriving.
I suppose we are just going to have to trust the club as they will have offered the deal they believe is fair and achievable to both parties. Ah well, why couldn't we just have enjoyed the rest of the season, it's only a matter of weeks before it all ends.

Totally agree, but I'm sure we'll cope without her, she's a bit of a flat track bully to me, yeah she scores a lot of goals, but often against the lesser teams, and sometimes looks disinterested/frustrated in games when she isn't scoring.

Completely agree that we need to prioritise someone who is clinical. Tbh, Kerolin is pretty prolific and can get a shot away. She wouldnt be a bad shout to play upfront.

Schroeder at Hacken seems to be the next big thing but signed a new contract in June.

A shame, but push Viv up front and have Fowler/Clinton behind her.
My thoughts too if we look for a solution within the existing squad.
Finally I wish Bunny all the best wherever she ends up she has had a terrific 5 years with us - we just have to replace the 20 odd goals a season ha!
Absolutely this - let's not mourn that she's leaving, let's rejoice that we had her for her prime years.

I think they're losing a number of high earners - Ramirez & Bronze possibly amongst others.

£1m is more than twice what Sam Kerr was on though. Unless they’ve sold their training ground to themselves again, that’s one less player they can afford.

Just like Haaland really. Unstoppable when they're on form but useless when they're not.

It would be worth every penny in keeping Khadija-Shaw for our own chances of more silverware instead of gifting Arsenal or Chelsea titles and cups. Pay whatever it takes to agree on a 3 to 5-year deal, just don't let her leave for a rival, plus, how much would a replacement cost ?

Makes no sense in letting khadija-shaw walk away

True but we’re being blackmailed into paying her £1 million per year according to media - which Chelsea are happy to do as they don’t care.
This should be investigated

Very true. She’s not worth 1 million a year
