9 | Khadija Shaw

I do not like the 'I am staying' narrative. It is a privilege to be a part of this club. PR or not, nobody is bigger than the club, and a simple statement from the latter that we are pleased to confirm that we have renewed the contract of Bunny Shaw is the way it should be.

Good luck to her - an exceptional player.

I think if you listen to how Bunny has always talked, you'll see she's quite relaxed and rarely adds much hype to herself.

Let the club and the media enjoy their PR management how they see fit. Think announcements are damp squib these days as everything is leaked beforehand.

I think the fact she waited around so long and gave City the time they needed to get a suitable deal on the table shows how much she values the club and i think in the wake of last week's event being dominated at times by fans chanting for her to stay, it kind of made sense to announce in the way they did.

And while i do agee it's a privilege to play for the club. Its also ok to acknowledge that it's a privilege that someone like Bunny wants to play for us too. She took a risk leaving that deal on the table with Chelsea for as long as she did.

On the PR point, tbh i think we need to leverage PR opportunuties and viral moments like that wherever we can. Despite an amazing season our average attendances dropped slightly this year and we really need to address that.

I get what you're saying but, this is arguably the biggest news in womens football this summer.
Also, the club chose to announce it this way in front of a huge audience. I think, that they think, it's a big deal.

Big big Jump in wages if true that she has become one of the highest paid players in Europe! Think she was on about 5k a week now it’s about 20k a week

All this is true, of course.
It is the 'I am staying' that I have heard in the men's and women's game which, to me, suggests that we should be grateful. I am pleased she is staying, of course, but who should be grateful is a moot point!

Fair points for me to consider.
Great response, IMO.

Again though, the club decided to have her say this in front of 17000 fans and 'live' on t'internet. They could simply have announced that she had signed a new deal today, tomorrow, whenever. I'm not sure it's fair to suggest Bunny was looking for gratitude

Yes, I understood your response and a response to another poster shows that I could develop my grasp of PR in the modern game and shall give it some thought.

Fantastic news from the After Party yesterday.

As soon as Natalie started talking to Bunny about the contract, I knew what was coming, but it shouldn’t really have got to this point.

Four more years will probably see Khadija to the end of her career as a top-flight centre-forward, but as long as she keeps banging the goals in for us, who knows?

Wasn’t the length of the deal the main sticking point?

As I said, brilliant news.
