9 years ago today… Hello Pep and a new badge (follow the link):

Not sure why, but I have this memory of the new badge being launched/announced at a home game against Sunderland (around Christmas time?), with one of those huge tifo type banners in the lower tier of the South Stand. Maybe my memory is finally throwing in the towel?
A lot gets lost to me these day, but I do remember,with the current badge,
season ticket holders at the time chose what we wanted the new badge to look like,it was via
the cityzens website or emails,they gave you options to chose, like did you want the 3 rivers of manchester on the badge etc.

As Gary says on his Manchester Emblems piece, written in 2022;
“The club’s current badge has been worn on shirts for over six years after first being revealed at Christmas 2015 and worn from summer 2016”.

It was announced at that game but came into use 9 years ago today.

There was a whole series of consultation activities, including a series of talks that I presented that were free to attend. I went into the history of every element and some aspects, such as the history of the red rose on the badge, were explained in detail. Other Manchester logos, symbols etc such as the bee, were also included and fans were able to say what elements they wanted. It was the most detailed and involved badge consultation any club had ever performed.

I took photos of the new badge on Boxing Day 2015 as I walked down Joe Mercer Way towards Briscoe Lane.
So your memory is still doing ok Jim.

I remember voting or choosing the option for the red rose,and obviously got included.

I remember attending a meeting at the Press Centre where we talked about what we would like on a new badge and most people voted to keep the red rose (including me). I still say I am a Lancashire Lass and will do so until my dying day. :-)
