imho,we are getting so close to been their equal it has took three ridiculous late last kick in the pips type goals to despatch city this term and although it is hard to take again, it proves we are so close to getting the better of them.

-- Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:47 pm --

if we had the confidence to hold what we had in injury time, the outcome would be vastly different.

If i'm honest with you, all through the game (well most of it) i know the rags dominated but i was more confident we would score on attacks rather than the rags.

Even in injury time, their attacks worried me, but i still felt more confident that we would snatch a goal rather than them lot. Shame we didn't and i refuse to believe the biased reports that they "bossed" the game.

Gingernut played well, but only 'cos we let him. Everyone else on the pitch didn't really do anything and neither team deserved 1point let alone 3.

They've beaten us by the skin on their teeth this season. I feel quite positive in that summer isn't a long way away and you can expect us to strengthen significantly again and we'll be a lot stronger next year. Yea we've come up short at times this season but next year it's gonna get very fucking interesting

I know in the past (pre-Sheik) we've beaten them on the odd occasion, but by and large, they beat us - it's what happened in derbies, certainly while I was growing up.

Now though, it's taken them more than 90 minutes to beat us on 3 occasions and on each occasion it's been closer than the last. There's no way that can continue forever.
We're getting closer, 'Tick Tock' suddenly has more meaning to it than the debt alone.

Still amazes me we did the double over a much stronger Rag team with a much weaker City team a couple of seasons back.

tevez poster realy wound them. We have got our derby back. There was legitimacy an their claim to the Liverpool derby, 18 titles and all that, but not any more. WE ARE their biggest match, because they know we're a threat. You could see that from the teams and their fans response on Saturday, and the previous victories.

-- Sun Apr 18, 2010 8:43 pm --

This is the best derby thread on here. None of the other nonsense! True, honest facts that they have needed the last kicks of games to beat us........ our time will come.

indded my point exactly ,just how important it has become to them and how close we are to competing truely on equal footing.

The last 7 years we have been behind the scum as follows at the end of the season - 40, 32, 47, 40, 25, 34, 32 points - average of 35.7 points.

This season (depending on results) we are looking at being 14 points behind.

I'd say we are now close to them and with a few signings next season should be interesting to say the least......

I always thought against good team we should play 4 5 1.
We dont have the midfield for 442. I would of eased the pressure on de jong and barry.
We lost the game in the middle of the park.

I wish we would stop wishing of being better than them.

If we build our club on and off the pitch, slowly and have paitence then it won't be too long before we will pass them without noticing.

All this talk of we're going to overtake them just fires them up more to stop that happening.

Great thread - I wrote something along these lines on here last night. And although I hate to lose against United, the two late goals in the league only cost us 2 points, which is the same number we gave away at home against Hull.

We may have beaten them more often in recent seasons than we have this year, but I'd swap two heartbreaking league losses and a top 6 finish for two one-off victories and mid-table mediocrity anyday. Of course, I live in California, so I'm not surrounded by gloating rags....

That's footy, Love, can't put yer finger on it, but when the board went up for only three mins I was a little bemused because I thought it was more than that, and the definite thought flitted across my mind - Ah well, they've less chance of doing us in added time! Jeez! Why do I bother thinking at all?
