I was at a supporters club meeting in Northenden, before we moved to the Etihad.
Denis Tueart was the guest speaker and a conversation took place regarding the proposed capacity and our then fan base.
He told us that 36% of our then fan base, lived in the South East of the country, that was over 20 years ago, well before we went on our recent successful winning streak?!

Loved Denis as a player (and as a bloke, actually), but I'd be a bit curious to know where he gets that figure from. Sounds to me as though he pulled it out of his overhead kick. Over twenty years ago, I could barely come across anyone in London who would admit to actually supporting City. They might have said, “Oh yeah, we quite like them. Plucky club, always falling on their faces, but they get up again. They amuse us*.”
As ever — today as then — it depends what we understand by “fanbase”.

We have relatively smallish support in places 20-30 miles away such as St Helen's, Chester, Preston, Warrington etc certainly smaller in number than the other 3 North West clubs in our division so to say 36% of our fans live in the south east is hard to believe. Our match going support is still primarily made up of legacy supporters from Greater Manchester with the majority of these being based in the east and south of the city. We do have day-trippers and the like but once again nothing like those who follow them in red and the London clubs.
