Does anyone actually give a shit what all these said
We are the champions
whatever they think
It does matter, I'm 55 years old, Manchester born and bred, my dad took me to Maine Road as a kid in the 60's, my two brothers, who live in Manchester, are season ticket holders and I get up to Manchester as often as I can, seeing five or six games a season, but I lived in London for twenty five years and now Norwich for the last seven.
Supporting a team from a distance means you make the most of the City website, forums, articles, everything City related. So how your team is reflected in the media takes on a whole new significance when you are not surrounded by the "support group" of living in the city, surrounded by fellow blues.
My pet hate is Talk Sport, but Radio 5 Live is not much better, in a way it doesn't matter to an old fart like me, I'd support City if they played in the Mothercare Amateur League against the Dagenham Girl Pipers, but if we're to spread the word to the younger crowd not blessed to be born in the shadow of Manchester Town Hall, how the team is reflected in the media matters.
The insidious, drip of "City bought the title", "overpaid mercenaries", "troubled club", "prima donnas", "typical Italian", "typical city", "remember Blackburn", rich man's plaything".... Water off a ducks back to the faithful, but seeds of doubt relentlessly sown, every day, 24/7.
Trust me, at the beginning of next season there will be a grudging mumble of half hearted praise in the media, don't expect any gushing superlatives for our achievements, but if we stumble they'll pile in with all of the above with added bile.
