I work with a big Liverpool fan, and I must say a top lad, I even brought him to the Arsenal CC and Utd Semi games and that was doing a 500 mile round trip at night as he loves his footie.
So what was his view this morning, henow thinks the run in for 4th is between Spurs, City and Villa, and in his words the worst thing that could happen is Liverpool win the Europa Lge as it would hide the fact the they have had another poor season.
He now thinks Liverpool could struggle to get into Europa at all, with Villa now having 3 games in hand it is worrying.
He was expecting, as I was that City would be 5 pts behind Liverpool going into the Sunderland game with 2 games in hand, now we could be 2 pts behind with 3 games in hand.
When you look at the table it is true what he is saying, last nights result was a mega problem for them.
We must now put pressure on them by winning at Sunderland.

We play at Sunderland before they play next (Portsmouth next Monday)

Games in hand dont mean Jack shit unless you win them.

Why do people always go on about... we *could* be.....

You saw what happened at Wigan against the scouse, it can happen to any team.

The only points you can take for granted are the ones on the board. Yes we have the slight advantage of extra games, but doesnt mean we will win them.

All we need to do is perform, win games and fuck what the other teams are doing, we need to help ourselves because we will fall foul if were looking at other teams to help us.

just need to win our games. especially against spuds

I think your missing the point, his views are how poor Liverpool are doing and what postion they have got themselves in, yes we do have to win the games in hand, but like he says he would rather be in our postion then theirs, he is not even looking at City now, he is looking at Villa behind them with 3 games in hand. That tells you something, but yes I would rather have pts in the bag, but I will take our postion now forthe run in.

Either way its in our hands, we won't but we need to take maximum points if we do its in the bag, simple.

the games in hand mean nothing unless we win them

the win at chelski will be cancelled out if we dont get 3 pts at sunderland

we must go out to win the next game and then the liverpool loss to wigan will be relevant

He's dreaming if he thinks Liverpool are gonna win the Europa league with the likes of Benfica and Valencia in there.

that sounds like a direct quote from slur alex...is that you??...heard it many times!!

And you are right!!

I think Liverpool arnt in the mix for the 4th spot after been beaten last night, Our last 11 games now is like Cup Finals starting on Sunday v Sunderland, We have a great record against them home and away think we won 9 on the bounce against them so far, And I think we will beat them Sunday we will be to strong for them all over the field, Just heard Merson saying on SSN that Cattermole went off injured and he could be out for a while so thats a massive blow for Sunderland.

I reckon Sunderland 0-2 City.

There are a few negative comments about games in hand (and hundreds so far this season). How can it be a problem to have played less games and still be on the same or more points than our rivals?

Ok - if Liverpool were ten points ahead but we had four games in hand then you'd take Liverpool's position, but it's never been like that. We've been there or thereabout all season having played less than most of the teams around us.

The situation now with Liverpool is that if we are both probably targeting another 18-20 points. We've got 11 games to get them - the dippers have got nine. Their task is to play with title winning form, ours is to match top six form. All four teams will drop points along the way, but we can afford to drop more than the others and still come out on top.

Thinking that we've got to beat Sunderland or the Chelsea win is a waste makes no sense. The Chelsea win is 3 points no matter what happens - individual results don't make a season they just all add up after 38 games for our total.

the chelski game we weent expected to win....the sunderland one is a game wwe should expect something from....if we dont get something fromt hat game then we would be no better off than expected at this point in the season.

Anyone fear that "typical city" will muck things up against Sunderland after our great Chelsea result?!!

I'm gonna be a bag of nerves for every game from now until the end of the season!!!

I don't think you can look in isolation because we'll do better than expected against some teams and worse against others. But if you want to combine these two then Sunderland have only lost twice at home this season. Chelsea hadn't lost at all till they played us.

Before playing us they'd given away a grand total of 13 points from 27 home games this season.

So anything more than a point from the two games and we'll be doing better than most teams. We've got three already so we're better than expected at this point in the season. A draw at Sunderland will be a good result (Liverpool and Arsenal would have loved a point), while a win will be a brilliant result.
