A few personal observations on the food and drink options taken during my 1st visit to the Etihad (Brugge)

Only ever been in Mary D’s once and that was enough. Sardines in a tin is an understatement, however I can see why it’s a ritual for some.

Mary Ds is shite, Townley would have been better beer wise. Though town is 15-20 mins walk away if Cask first/last port of call so there is really no need to drink near the ground.
Lots of great pubs now in Ancoats and Great Ancoats Street area. Bar Fringe, Crown and Kettle, Port Street Beerhouse, Cask. That’s for starters and all rammed with City fans

Spoke to someone in the know a few years ago and the amount of lager that Mary D’s shifts on a match day is insane, although premium lager wasn’t referenced in the conversation.

Because of the episodic nature of the trade there I expect the beer will sometimes be sat in the lines for days. Wouldn’t be amazed if the line cleaning at Mary D’s was infrequent.

Think it’s generally best to stick to the cooking lager in a venue like that.

Before match: Pint in Mary D's.

Estrella.
Expensive, Flat, warm and served in a cardboard tumbler.

Was expecting a match day experience (bouncers, ready pours, etc,) but wasn't expecting such a scruffy and industrial setting.
Not a place I'd be looking to go to unless desperate. Must be awful on a normal night.
Disappointed.

Stadium: (pre match)
Pints: Can't remember the name lol.
Very expensive. £8?, Plastic pot, cold.
Staff slow and clumsy. Was ok. Much better than MD's but one would hope so for the price.

Stadium (half time)
Pie: Steak, 6£. Warmish.
Enjoyed the pie. It was decent quality but it wasn't hot enough and had a rubbery, microwaved texture. Bit odd.
Didn't expect to have enough time for a pie and pint at half time but somehow managed it.

Mary D's (after match).
Fool me once....

Pint: Estrella.
Perhaps the worst pint of pish I've ever had the misfortune to pay for.
Couldn't drink it. I'm still shuddering at the thought that it was the slips.
On this alone, I'll never go in there again. I've had duff pints before but this was something else. Awful.

Chippy (Next door to Mary's).

Sausage supper. Can't remember the price but not expensive.

Highlight of the night. Great place, funny staff and a lovely service and great food. Clearly they don't dumb down on match days. No wonder there were queues both before and after. Recommended.

Next time, I'll skip the pub. Really disappointed with that.

(Great night in total though ).

Scruffy and industrial setting? You should have gone to maine road..I did and I loved it. Shut up moaning. Cor fucking blimey

Nice positive morning on BM.

Here, the stadium and surrounding area is shit. Perhaps someone could create some form of group to try and make things better for everyone.

Oh no, they called it a trade union, so that must be quashed and vilified immediately. We don’t want things to get better for anyone.

Perhaps we should drink in town beforehand.

Oh no, that’s shit now and would be fixed if the gardens had a shrubbery.

Miserable people got to miserable.

Oi.. Stop Fucking Moaning ;-)

I remember, before City Matters started, being invited to an event with Jamie Oliver presenting food for us to discuss and maybe recommend.

That was a good event… and they had Meat and Potato pies!
So is it your fault PB that M & P pies disappeared?? ;-)
I'm not taking the blame for that Sheila!

I remember we got Marco Pierre White in to do a gourmet burger and he was in the stall cooking them. We were in the queue & I said to my son "That chef is the image of MPW" and it was him! Very surreal having him cook & hand you a burger.

I remember hearing about that. I don’t blame you but boy oh boy I miss my meat and potato pies! I always thought Holland’s were the best being an Ecclesian brought up on them so to speak but the ones we had in the CBL for years were better. I want them back!! (*stamps foot*. Owww that hurt with my poorly feet. Serves me right for being a baby!! ;-) ;-) )

Pretty sure Marco Pierre White had something to do with it at some point too
