A forgotten golden moment

In the Bradford end thought we had fukked it.
The previous season had been there on a Tuesday night a few days after a 0-3 loss at Ipswich.
Won 4-2 at Valley Parade, Paul Lake was a sensation.

I too was in the Bradford end. The stand to the left of the City end (from their viewpoint) - I think this was the stand which had been burnt down some four years earlier.

A few things stick in the memory:

John Bond getting dog's abuse from the City fans behind the goal when he was being interviewed,I think by Rob Mcaffrey.

Loads of missed chances from City.

That bloke with the long hair running on and telling the players that Palace were winning.

Morley's goal. I went fucking mental. I remember getting some funny looks from the Bradford fans around me, but nothing more.


Others like to look upon our tour of the lower leagues with disdain, but is there a club with a more interesting narrative in the English game than City?

I've been in the Leeds at Elland Road a few times (including behind the goal which Weikens & Howey scored in 2000) but I kept my head down.

There was some fighting early on at the top of the kop. Another group of blues congregated there.

Never forgotten.

I remember being in a traffic jam after the game and someone from the car next to us passed us in a bottle of champagne to swig on. Fantastic memories.

There was some fighting early on at the top of the kop. Another group of blues congregated there.

Correct.Some Blues came in the top and got attacked,they fought back and the police moved them to the bottom corner.Where i was in the seats at the side it was mainly a lot of Blues dotted together and mainly trouble free,though the odd Bradford fan was a bit mouthy here and there.At half time there was a bit of banter between some of their boys[an older bloke in glasses seemed their main man?]and us which nearly kicked right off when some pissed up City dick started taunting them about the fire and was quickly sorted out by his own mates which calmed it all down.

Was at the swamp for the Brightwell goal, class melee in the old paddock.

I was directly in line with the Brightwell screamer and still swear blind Leighton got is fingertips to it. Was like it was all slowed down before madness ensued.

I had just got my first my House ( and mortgage) with the first Mrs Richfan.

I was trying to make some sense of the back garden a week earlier and listening to GMR when we really knobbed it up against Bournmouth; and exactly a week later was still coming to terms with both that and the back Garden.

I can't believe we left it so late.

Seen the Goal a million times and Kev's wrong, most will be like me and will remember it fondly.

Excellent spot by LT about Morley celebrating on his own. I had never noticed that.

I am worried now that I am going to go to bed thinking that White,Redmond,Megson,Gleghorn etc are all a bunch of twats !

We drove over in my mate's Tameside Glass van,and managed to dodge the old bill.
We were a bit lost and we pulled over to ask this aisan bloke for directions,he had the broadest Yawkshaw accent we'd heard and the tone of the day was set.
Just a great day and cracking atmosphere,we didn't see any lumber at the game but the natives had noticed the 061 on the van and getting away was a bit of an effort.

We had a nice mob in Halifax (I think) boozer got destroyed, fruit machines, cig machines, pool table the lot got ransacked! Made our way to Bradford where it went off everywhere.
Just got in intime for the pitch invasion at the end, cracking day.

I was there as well. I was disgusted by all the young kids, pissed out of their heads, singing songs and enjoying themselves.

Joking apart, that was the first season my dad started taking me to away games, ending in that game. Hooked me for life.

This was my first season watching City and remember this also very fondly. Me and Dad were listening to GMR in the front room, Dad switched it off at the end, couldn't take it anymore, I begged him to switch it back on.....I said you never know Dad.....we switched it back on to hear the goal go in. We jumped around like mental people, brilliant memories I'll never forget.

Me and lads i went wiht had decided the week before that we would omfortably beat Bournemouth (luther fucking Blissett lol) so booked a holiday to Kos leaving on the day of Morleys goal. We listened to it on the radio waiting to leave for the airport.

Much celebrating in Kos that night :)

My first season as a match going fan, 1988-89. Leicester at home 4-2 was my first game, Lake "swallowed his tongue"; went to a few others, Blackburn away on my birthday got hammered and heard about Hillsborough in the car on way home; Bournmouth at home sticks in my mind, my Dad said "we're going up, son" only for a 3-0 half time lead fall away to a 3-3 final score...then this game.

I was only 6, then 7 during this season. But remember it well (remember very little other than this and some of the music from when I was that age).

Four of us went to Bradford but only I saw the goal as the other three just paced up and down at the back of the stand for the whole of the second half; they just couldn't handle it. Some thieving twat robbed my mates car radio as well.
