A Little Concerned

okay, your a top world class player who fancies a challenge in the premier league, City,Sunderland, pompey, west ham? fulham? et al offer you the same deal, signing on, wages, bonus etc. Where do you go? no contest me thinks.
I agree, West Ham or Fulham would probably win easily. Never, ever, underestimate the pull of London for foreigners.

Fortunately, though, we have more financial clout, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Its not just about havin the cash to buy him, its much more about being able to sustain his wages and playing as many games as he can.
so players will look at the whole picture. I remember reading about players shunning places like the north east because their wife or Gfs didnt want to live there.
If we're in compitition its probably with Pompy. imo

Plus the small matter that we have the biggest project in world football, even bigger than Real Madrids new Galactico policy, and that is to become the best team in england, and then the world... what player will be able to reject that when we get rolling.

im not concerned, it looks like Sunderland are gonna hire Steve Bruce and are looking for Titus Bramble so they're not going to have a 'high-profile' manager who can attract the big names

As for Pompey, shit club with a shit stadium.

They're nowhere near us IMO

It's still very early days but I am surprised at the sluggish starts we had made to the last two tranfer windows. Lots of bluster but not much action. I do think there is some truth in Hughes struggling to attract the highest calibre players. He isn't a manager that top players would jump at the chance to play for

Very true. No matter what we think of Sven, for instance, he has a better CV and contacts. Top players will think well 'he's done it before so he can do it again'.

That's not meant to be slant on Hughes. But look at all the clubs who are 'big players' home or abroad. Most have managers in place with an impressive CV.

But at present it appears City are prepared to run with Hughes and see if he can make a name for himself.
