A lot of ifs, but could we overtake United this season?....

I couldn't really give a rat's anyway, if I'm honest. To all intents and purposes, fourth is just as good as third for us this season. I do think about that glut of draws under Mark Hughes earlier in the season and how close we might have come to the title race proper if we hadn't have surrendered second half home leads to the likes of Fulham, Hull and Burnley. But that's just greedy, really.

Actually there's quite a big difference between finishing 3rd and 4th...

As you have to qualify into the group stages at 4th where as at 3rd you don't.

DARE TO DREAM

Chelsea 2 Bolton 0
Villa 1 Everton 1
Spurs 1 Arsenal 2
City 6 United 0
Spurs 0 Chelsea 2
Portsmouth 1 Villa 2
Wigan 1 Arsenal 2
Liverpool 0 West Ham 0
Hull 1 Villa 2
Arsenal 1 City 5
United 1 Spurs 1
Villa 1 Birm 1
Burnley 1 Liverpool 1
Chelsea 3 Stoke 0
Blackburn 0 Arsenal 1
Liverpool 1 Chelsea 2
City 8 Villa 0
Sunderland 1 United 1
Spurs 2 Bolton 0
City 7 Spurs 1

Unlikely but NOT impossible

Going into last game with West Ham safe

Chelsea 86 +62
Arsenal 80 +80
United 75 +48
City 74 +36

City to win at West Ham and Stoke to snatch a draw at the swamp would put us 3rd!

Believe!

Well if I'm gonna dream I won't be constrained by your lack of imagination FFS

I'm always optimistic, and this scenario is'nt something I've actually thought about, City finishing higher in the league than united.

I don't think it will happen, but what a laugh if it does.

even the word impossible, has possible in it.

until its mathematically impossible, i think its still well and truly possible.

I've been thinking this for 2 weeks, but have been too scared to even say it. Every time we have got ahead of ourselves we have subsequently fallen over this season. The important point is that we are in complete control of our destiny whereas rags are relying on the results of others. That feeling as a blue is gold!

Agree if it wasn't for them 7 straight draws we would be still in the title race next season can only get better eh??

I stated all the way through the Hughes debarcle we would rue the dropped points.

I always said that we could have won the league this year and when the season finally finishes and when we look back the sense of What if ? will be a very bitter pill to swallow and the feeling of why the hell did anyone want to keep hughes?
will come to the fore.

Good point, I admit. But we can forget about third this year, whether it's a significant improvement or not.

as ghandi once said, "fuck me too many chillies". point is this, all is good, time will tell for city and the current ingredients to me are working just fine. lets not forget united could not get a sniff of the league b4 the prem an all the investment it brought..

ha ha - thats brilliant
