A meeting with Paul Dickov

I still watch that game, well the last 10 minutes and then extra time anyway :) We were pretty awful for most off it until the end wern't we? Great goals by Horlock and Dickov (correct spelling this time!!!) and Nicky Weaver -Still makes the hair on the back of my next stand up - especially when you listen to the radio commentary with Andy Buckley and David White - "City are back on course, they were blown off it, it was only a temporary hitch though" LOL

I agree with you...... but it has also been argued that it was with the likes of Dickov that we ended up in the lower leagues.....
Discuss......

He had little influence on our decline despite being an Alan Ball signing. Id cite the loss of Coton, Walsh, Flitcroft and the signings of Immel, Frontzeck, Creaney as much bigger factors in the drop out of the Premiership.

Then if we are to name the people who saw over our further decline? I shudder. Horrible, horible days.

Agree with this, we still had the Goat, but losing Beagrie and Walsh around that time would have hurt any team in our position

And let's face it, The Goat didn't arrive until it was too late to save us from relegation to he third tier.

Know Mark from Euromark, top bloke and season card holder.....

genuine bloke. remember meeting him in mary d's and shit loads of people were asking for autographs and pictures and he took every single one, great bloke, good sense of humour and clearly he has a place in his heart for city.

Maybe he could have a role in the coaching set up at City? Maybe he's got managerial ambitions of his own

Great bloke, great goal :) To put it simply, that goal started us down the road to where we are now, without Dickoff we might still be in the lower leagues.
If Dickov was half the player he is made out to be we would never have been in that Division never mind have to be in the playoffs "Legend" he certainly wasnt called that when he scored against us & celebrated like a man possesd .think some have convienient memories

no matter how many goals he scored against us, he still saved us from eternal damnation, how ungrateful some ppl can be

I think Darren Huckerby was ten times more important to City than Dickov. At Div 1 level Huckerby scored 20 goals and not only kept us out of Div 2 but helped put us in the Prem.
Dickov may have scored a goal to help us out of Div 2 but he was signed to get us out of Div1 in the right direction and never looked capable of doing that - accepting that he played a small role in Royle's promotion but was consiedered not up to the task and replaced by a fat binman.

Am not sure who on this thread is ungrateful maybee you can point out who is .You are correct Dickovs goal did help save us .missing the penalty nearly sunk us though .Lets not forget he was bought to score goals ,if he scored more maybee we would never have been in the play offs in the first place
