We are very lucky indeed. Yet again Mancini shows his shrewdness in the transfer market. Even when everyone is thinking he's signed a turkey, he manages to polish out a gem.

Mancini's signings have made total sense. Hughes's did'nt, in the main.
I think Hughes signings made a lot of sense. People keep forgetting he did not have the same City Mancini has. Remember how Milner fought to leave Villa? Really think he would have done that a year earlier? Don't think so! He got who was available. Mancini is getting who he wants. Which are 2 different things.

Agree with that. Kompany, Barry, De Jong, Zabaleta, Lescott are all Hughes signings. Although he signed some duds he also made a lot of good signings.

Very true, in that Mancini has had the whip hand, but I don't think he would have signed who Hughes did, at the time. Even with money, it is very easy to blow it. Santa Cruz was a glaring error from day one. Boeteng aside we've not had many problems.

I admit, I didn't think Milner was good enough, but today he was class. He had touch, vision, bundles of energy and if he can play like that, then he is worth a place in any team.

Although in my defence Ive never slated him on here or at the game, I hate that shit.

why does he insist on taking every set piece? hes like a bloody kid everytime silvas lining up a corner he sprints over and takes it himself other than that covered every piece of grass on that pitch today

He does put in a very good cross though. Better than AJ's by far

Had the pleasure of finding myself next to de niro and his perfectly charming wife today and we agreed Milner was star man. Dzeko fantastic as well.
Not really sure there's any need to start calling fellow posters out though. If they've got something wrong, they will know it themselves. Don't know what he said, but I'm sure ricster will feel a bit daft after today's performance.
Can't we just enjoy a good win?

Dax i don't agree with a lot of your posts but your spot on with this one.

The only carrot Hughes had was money, the club is in a differant place now than it was then.

I thought both Barry and Milner suffered last season from post South Africa hangovers, Milner after a bright start faded (he was excellent against Liverpool at home), and looked very jaded mid to late season, - seemed to be trying too hard. Barry I thought played OK, on the whole, but seemed to me to be struggling for his usual spark.

Today both were excellent.

Hughes's biggest downfall in the transfer market was he went for what he thought was tried tested premiership players. Apart from all his other short comings, he was out of his depth and he was in fantasy football mode.

De Jong, Kompany, Zab?

I know what your saying and i agree he was out of his depth but we had no pulling power then which makes the above three good finds.

We're in a better place now which makes it easier to attract better players.

milner was on a par with silva & dzecko today, best game as a blue so far. great professional & english whats not to love. flair players are great but you need a bit of steel in any great team & at bolton he showed both!

milner lynch mob should be ashamed. imagine how good he'd be if you supported him.

Scuse me for asking but isn't Ric the guy who runs this board? Does he not rate Milner?

Shows how much he knows about football.....

I've known James for 10 years, no more honest and dedicated a pro footballer in the country. Play him in his best position (like today) and he's well worth a place in our team.

It never fails to amaze me how clueless some blues relly are about football

Ha, clueless. Thats something i haven't been called before, and it is quite obvious you dont follow any of my posts as i am far from clueless about football.

-- Mon Aug 22, 2011 10:15 am --

Yes it's the same person. Send him a PM ripping him to shreads over his lack of knowledge.

It's his Enoch Powell obsession that really gets my goat.

1 post is an obsession is it? Nothing like trying to stir shit again.

I have to hold my hands up and confess to having questioned Milner's ability to fit into our team and step up but, in my defence, he hadn't really shown us that he could before.

He was a revelation yesterday in a more advanced midfield role and he pushed Silva for MOTM. Like to see him given a run.
