A non-game perhaps? Sunderland v West Brom

Wasn't there a game last year (or year before?) in one of the lower leagues, both teams needed a draw to survive? I remember youtube footage of one of the team's goalkeepers just holding the ball at his feet in the last few minutes until the full time whistle went.

Just three years ago Lyon needed a huge turnaround in goals to progress from the CL group stage over Ajax.

Lyon were playing Zagreb and Ajax played Madrid.

Ajax lost 3-0 but had two goals disallowed, Lyon won 7-1 (they were 1-0 down at half time!) and some of the goals were incredibly dodgy (one met with a wink from a Zagreb defender!).

It was against Peru
Conspiracy theories surround the game Argentina and Peru played in the second round of the tournament. Argentina needed to win by a margin of four goals to proceed to the final and did so by defeating Peru by 6–0. Conspiracy theorists claim Argentine military dictatorship interfered to ensure Argentina would defeat Peru. However, these claims were refuted by the Peruvian captain and several Peruvian players.[5] The story varies wildly depending on the accuser and no proof has ever been shown. There is no agreement on whether they were threatened or bribed, whether it was the trainer, all the players or some players, or whether it happened before the game or during half time. Initially, the rumours stemmed from the Brazilian media due to the fact that the Peruvian goalkeeper had been born in Argentina.[6][7] There's no agreement on what encompassed the deal either. An alleged deal, reported by the British media as an anonymous rumour and only decades later, involved the delivery of a large grain shipment to Peru by Argentina and the unfreezing of a Peruvian bank account that was held by the Argentine Central Bank.[8] Another deal, published by a Colombian drug lord in a controversial book, simply involved the Peruvian team being bribed without any political implications.[9] A third deal, claimed by a Peruvian leftist politician, encompassed sending 13 Peruvian dissidents exiled in Argentina back to Peru.[10] On top of the contradictions between stories, no evidence is shown in any case.

I remember England had to beat san marino nil by seven clear goals to progress. San Marino nil scored the fastest goal in world cup history and England went on to win 7-1, fucking jokers.

Nah, England had to win by seven AND hope that the Dutch didn't win against Poland. And they did, so it was irrelevant.

I think they needed to win 4-0 but won 6-0. With lots of accusations levelled at at their opponents.

In other matters, won't we have something more important to consider on Wednesday night?

They had to beat Peru 4-0 I think and if I remember correctly the goalie for Peru was born in Argentina.

Purely on a points front, we only took 1 point from Sunderland this season and 4 from Narwich. Hope sunderland go down.
