A s**t away end full of tourists

I suppose it is possible that they got their tickets from the allocation given to the players rather than the club top slicing them from the allocation that went to points holders. Even so, all of them turning up wearing Barca shirts isn't helping matters and will only lead to suspicion and anger.

As someone else said, many of us have been football tourists at some point but we wouldn't go wearing City shirts at a Barca game. I'd also say that if you're going to a game as a tourist, at least try and support the team whose fans you're with. On my mate's stag do in Prague in 2006 we went to see Slavia Prague play while we were there. We supported Slavia and joined in with some of the chants as well. 2 years later 4 of us did a few days in Munich for the Oktoberfest. On the Sunday we went to watch 1860 Munich play Ingolstadt. 3 blues and 1 red in the home end and all of us supporting 1860, not turning up in another club's shirt and showing no interest in what was going on.

There isn’t a rule saying fans of other clubs shouldn’t wear their clubs shirts at City matches. I’ve seen loads of different teams shirts worn by tourists at the Etihad. But there is an accepted rule amongst fans that fans of other clubs shouldn’t wear their team’s shirts at other grounds, especially not in the away ends. It’s a sign of disrespect.

Like you I’ve been to a few European games whilst on holiday. I would have never worn a City shirt to those matches. If you go and watch another team, you usually support the home team, or be neutral, if you don’t have an affiliation to either side.

let's say hypothetically city don't get top 4 this season (which is unlikely) and have to play in the Europa League next season. We will have 10k empty seats or more because the tourist types won't fancy it especially on a cold Thursday night against a team from Kazakhstan and legacy fans will be pissed at how the they have been treated by the club over the years so they will not bother. makes me wonder what city long term plan is because it seems they don't have one.
And don’t forget if we do end up in the Europa League, the tickets will still be too expensive.

Don't worry if our recent form continues the tourists will melt away as fast as the recent snowfall we had.

and when they do, who will the club come cap in hand to, the very people who have been completely alienated. The success has allowed those at the top to do what they want unchecked, and it's reached a tipping point, i actually hate what we have become, City actually feels like the most expensive bill in the house, every opportunity another squeeze, a big game another squeeze. Khaldoon has lied to City fans, we can dress it up all we like, the speech he gave when he arrived is complete bullshit. I have no problem with anybody having an interest in City, wanting to support the club, the more the merrier, what i despise is the highest biddder just launching themselves to the front of the queue. Those Barca fans would be very welcome at The Etihad, but they cannot be amongst the away section for a game that i dare say 20000 would have made the short journey if tickets were available

A City away end, 2024 - part 3,007.

We were on the front row. The dad of a family of 4 behind us asked the stewards to make everyone in front of them to sit down, as they wanted to watch the match sat down. The steward asked if he wanted to swap seats and be on the front row. He refused. He spent practically all of the first half sat down, not watching the match. He stood up for the second half and clapped when their penalty went in.

Im a bit of a hopper ( done 400 grounds over the years ) and although I always have a City top on I would not dream of wearing it openly in other clubs grounds as a) I could get a kick in and b) it shows a total lack of respect to the club I am visiting.

That said one time I went to a Hungarian 4th division game and had a City hat on as I didnt expect any kind of mither.
A home supporter helped me order a beer then said to me that he hoped I had followed City for a long time as he hates us as a club re all the money.
I replied that I was born a mile from the ground, did my first game at 18 months old, been a season ticket holder for 40 plus years and for good measure added that my nan was born on the site of the current stadium. Mrs Tbilisi was in the background rolling her eyes as she felt sorry for the poor bastard at this point.
Saw him after the game and he crossed the road to avoid me lol.

I died a little inside reading that.

Absolutely spot on they really need to get the balance right on this one and so far they have failed miserably. This trend seems to be across the board now though, look at the rags and Spurs, they're shitting on their legacy fans from a great height.

pockets of that shite all around the away end, lets be honest the club have zero interest in local support, the very thing that defined City is becoming nothing but a memory

That fucker is getting a rather strong piece of my mind if I'm there.

Remember Blackburn away when we got promoted under Joe Royle. That's what being a Blue is all about. Took over the ground, cost me £100 for a ticket in their end and we had zero chance of winning anything back then save promotion. No amount of gimmicks and success can buy that loyalty.

City don't give a toss and this was expected when the criteria was released for the fixture.

just to add, where are these tourists for the Forest game, it looks like we have literally 1000's available, or do the club want the locals to snap up the bargain priced tickets starting at 51 quid for adults and 23 quid for under 18's. Time they gave their collective heads a shake and got in the real world, give something back you greedy twats 712 million turnover, 10% of which is gate receipts and your own fans are priced out, it's actually beyond stupid.

i had one ok, but paid 80 quid for another blue to get them in, what an away day that was, a real City following, each and every one there, inside and out lived and breathed for City, not a tourist within a million miles of Ewood Park, i wonder how many there that day have been forgotten by City

A lot I would think.

Remember Sheff Utd singing "youre not City anymore" a couple of years ago at the Etihad.

Sums it all up for me. The success has been brilliant but now I want my club back.

It was a superb day, then a night of celebration. The fuckers at the top should be shown the video of that and told this is what you're destroying. That game at Wembley a couple of years ago that was full of tourists was a stark warning as to what to expect. All the players were moaning about the lack of noise and vocal support but I think we sold out so the club would see it as a success. Again it's about balance.

It was around this time last season that
it really struck home.
City ticket office had fucked up our tickets, as a 'sorry' they gave us an up grade to the legends suit.

As a one of we did the pre match stadium tour ( don't bother ). I was shocked at how busy the campus was at 10 am for a 3pm ko.
On the tour of around 25 people the question was asked ' how many are going to the match' everyone was going. Than they asked how many are City fans, only about 6 or 7. That shocked me.

These tours were going every 15 minutes or so, there were loads of tours going on. Now if all the tours had the same percentage as ours, hardy any were City fans.

I hated it, I hated being outnumbered at my club, it was bizarre. I felt like I wasn't wanted anymore. The tour was geared up for new fans. The questions being asked by the tour guide was embarrassing, any ture City fan would know the facts and the history. It was a really dumb down tour

That's when my view on match going changed. Now we can't get tickets next to each other this season.

A lot of good comments have been made on this thread but some posters’ desperation for empty seats is akin to the Salem Witch Trials. I’m not sure who is Goody Proctor yet though.

It's a catch 22 isn't it? Everybody wants what's best for the club but we are part of that club too so we want what's best for ourselves as well. If the club starts being left with loads of unsold tickets then they'll have to have a rethink.

I think the club should be much more transparent about where away tickets go. I personally have never thought it's the club pocketing an extra bit of cash, but someone somewhere is letting non-City fans go to games that I don't have a chance of getting despite me being at the Etihad every home game. Really bugs me.
