A simple question.

Looks like it's option 2 by some way!

Yup, and I totally agree. Number 2.

I want to see a completely different top four, or top whatever, but someone else can challenge in our era. Not United. I want them playing on Hough End against a bunch of wannabe gangsters.

2 of course. But because it's very very unlikely it's not something I spend much time considering.

Besides, option 1 is far more palatable than not being able to compete with them at all which is something we've had to put up with down the years so I can cope with the thought of us and them going head to head for titles/trophies over the coming seasons.

The bottom line is that I'm more interested in what Manchester City may win in the coming years compared to what we've won over the past 30-odd years than what we may win compared to what the Rags have won in the past 20 years. They can keep their 19 league titles and 3 European Cups. I wouldn't swap any of those for a single trophy we've won in our history.

Option 2.

I'd love for them to have to suffer what we've been through. It'll also be interesting to see how many of the Norwegian/Malaysian/Korean fans stay "loyal" when it's United v Rochdale in a league one fixture. Can you imagine just how empty a 75k stadium will look for that type of game each week?

It'll never happen, obviously. United are such a cash generating machine they'll always have far too much money for that to happen.

I like some good competition. Obviously, I wouldn't mind if City won the league 20 consecutive times, but I like the excitement of a close race. That being said, the close race could be with anyone...Tottenham, Newcastle...Wigan, I don't give a shit. But the rags?? Who cares? Let em rot.

Many of them harp on about how big their crowds were during their only season out of the top flight in the past 50 years or so.....while conveniently forgetting that they went up as champions! Fuck me, the attendances at any club would hold up well in those circumstances.

As you say, sustained failure with a few relegations aligned with sustained success for their neighbours over a period of a couple of decades or so....let's see how big their crowds would be then. Not only would they lose a significant chunk of their non-local support base, they would also lose a generation of those young local fans not influenced by peer pressure as to who they should support.
