A thread about protesters

FsA comment on the This new policing bill.

The Bill has such low thresholds – ‘serious annoyance, disruption, unease (unease!) alarm’ – that they could very easily interfere with the rights that currently exist that allow fans to walk in large groups from a pub or city centre to a stadium.

The police could say that they believe members of the public are or would be uneasy or alarmed by traditional fan behaviour and then feasibly curtail it and make it a criminal offence.

So imagine a train over to say burnley and four fans sat together harmlessly start up a song, under this bill you could be arrested.

Honestly any football fan who thinks this bill is a good thing, well is unimaginable.

I have seen loads of stuff on line where the Police justification for stopping someone because " we have had reports of someone looking like you is acting suspiciously " and then back down when asked reports from whom? How many? What description do they give?

This takes all that legal red tape out of the equation because they can just say "somebody looking like you could cause unease and alarm so I will arrest you". Its just opinion - making the officer the arresting officer, judge and jury out on the street, Do gooder lawyers will have a field day and drive a coach and horses through cases.

Just a query on 'Line of Duty' they often refer a female uniformed Serjeant as 'PS Whatever' both verbally and in writing. I've never seen this before. They also have DSu which is new to me.
What's correct?
Coming out of WBA a couple of years ago l got chatting to a uniformed Serjeant and asked if the white tag denoted he was a Special. He was initially a bit put out initially but told me about the various colours, Gold Commander etc.
PS is Police Sergeant.
Dsu? is Detective Superintendent

People gathering at Windsor Castle and other Royal places to lay wreaths and ....well..... holding a vigil you could say.

I hope the Police wade in to disperse the crowds and arrest a few of those breaking covid procedures as is their duty.

We live and learn. I always thought Constable was the only one preceded with 'Police'.
I was never sure which rank DS referred to.
Did you ever learn how the man who murdered the Custody Sergeant managed to get and fire his weapon? Perhaps its still part of proceedings of some sort. Enjoying Civvy Street?

Yeah DS is Detective Sergeant..
No, I didn't-but I can tell you that we had a man in custody who had a firearm down his underwear-think it was around 2 yrs ago. Most arrest will not involve anything more than a cursory search of outer clothing...I guess we will hear more during the trial.
Yes thanks, miss the people, but not the crap that goes with the job..

been following city home and away since the 60s, went on the coach from the Leve branch for a couple of seasons and they were no shrinking violets, was a proper piss up with venues always arranged in bandit country, never came close to getting arrested once, the only way you'll get arrested is by acting the twat, just go about your business and your fine

I think the point that you are missing is the changes being made to the law. Had this been in place back then maybe your experiences would have been much much different - thereby is the concern. You get off the coach a bit merry couple of lads chant CITY and bang you can be arrested there and then because someone MIGHT have felt fear and distress at your chanting - not that they did and complained just that in the arresting officers view you MIGHT disturb someone......anyone........

For some reason, the police and Home Office are not busting the shit out of the various vigils taking place for an old geezer who shuffled off at 99.

Must be different rules if you hold a vigil for a murdered woman.

You mentioned the word vigil in a thread about protests. Clue?

There was a vigil for Sarah Everard on Clapham Common which the police busted up. You may have seen it on telly, women holding tealights, women getting carted off, it was against regs apparently.

It was mentioned earlier on in this thread. You probably missed the posts.

Police just wanted the women home before dark so they wouldn't be kidnapped and murdered by a policeman.

You think they would offer the same considerate service to those souls at the vigil for Phillip.

A lift to the cells and a warm bed courtesy of Her Maj. It would round off a very nice day out.

What it acting the twat behaviour?

I have never been arrested either btw.

So you never saw coppers be overly dickish to away fans or treat them as guilty already?

West yorkshire police, west midlands police are noturious for treating fans with contempt regardsless if any crime has been commited.

I have been section 60d at Leeds train station coming back from Hull, as was the whole platform of blues, not becasue there was anyone being dicks(which the officers admitted themselves), but used as a containment measure untill the Manchester train arrived, this was the police over using existing laws to treat football fans with contempt and as secind class citizens.

Imagine when they have the power of arrest if you sing a verse of a chant, shout "city" getting off the train of they think your group is too large a number and refuse you entry or to congregate together.

You have been fortunate to never see the police be twats to you or inocent football fans, many others have and will think this new bill is a worrying thing .

Presumably there are no vigils or "protests" in the area where Giles' car has been spotted or they'd have found 30 or 40 Met officers in moments

Lockdown rules haven't changed either.

I would love to hear why this is different.
