A thread about protesters

Wtf? It's rare that you hope something is just a random senseless killing, but that actually seems the least worst option here.

The good people of Peckham taking guns to a party.

I have never seen a gun outside of my military service, society in some places has shot its bolt.

Really? Never seen guns attending a shoot? Pretty common around here or used to be - city types paying £25k for a weekend to shoot cultivated birds up on the moors spilling out of the back of and old Trooper or similar.
Also seen rifles used in pest control - people going lamping for rabbits.
I agree btw seems mental taking a hand gun to a party though.

Or airport police officers.

I sometimes wonder what I have done wrong in my life, I battle through, day by day trying to do a fair days work for a fair days pay and just keeping my head above water & yet I see people on the TV protesting and disrupting traffic on the M25 - (helped by the police ffs!) and I wonder..... how come they have the time to do that!

At the end of the day, they are like King Canute ordering the tide not to come in, unless they can do something about China, which they can't, so what's the bloody point?

And don't get me started on care home workers refusing the vaccine and then complaining about it.... or other anti-vax nutters, such stupid, stupid people... I just can't believe it.

I'm sure some complain and protest about the climate change or the vaccine or statues of slave owners or whatever else is in vogue, just to be bloody difficult and contrary.

...

A high proportion of Climate activists like the Extinction Rebellion movement
were found to be self-employed, part-time workers, or students.

They also have a much broader and more diverse age profile than has been the case in other environmental or other direct action protests. In other words retirees and pensioners are in the mix.

You need the Karma thread.

Protest is integral to Democracy. Take away the right to protest and you get authoritarianism.

You will still battle through, day by day, trying to do a fairs day work for a days pay and just keeping your head above water but the people in charge who do less than the protestors will be laughing at you.

Guy on the radio today was a trainee care worker who has taken all of his outstanding annual leave to go and join the protests.

Also Canute didn't try to stop the tide coming in - he knew it would come in and that he couldn't stop it but his courtiers insisted he could so he sat on his throne as the tide came in to show he was right

Oh, I didn't know that and I used to drink in Knutsford, so I thought I knew all the correct stuff about him.

I don't have a problem with protesting per se its just I felt sorry for all those (Man Utd?) fans stuck on th M25 today because it is pointless - Extinction Rebellion (and their off-shoot, Insulate Britain) is pointless. They want a ban on all cars and all plane flights now, it is just unobtainable and they remind me of 'Swampy' living in a tree.

Same with the anti-vaxxers marching in London who then encourage other people around the country to reject the vaccine - which is again totally bloody stupid. I'm glad its now the law that care workers have had to have the jab and if they don't they should lose their jobs. I just hope the sensible ones who have taken the covid-19 vaccine get a pay rise as a result.

Protesting about some guy who 300 years ago made money in a bad way (in Bristol) is the absolute pits - what is the point, you can't change history. But when the police stood aside whilst a statue was vandalised and pushed into the harbour, well it just shows that 'authoritarianism' is nothing we need to worry about, because the powers that be are such pussies.

Has the statue been cleaned up/restored and put back where it once was*? because if not then the protestors have won and that sends out all the wrong messages: that breaking the law is Ok - if the cause is deemed to be a good one, in the moment.

(*That's a rhetorical question by-the-way - I know it has not).

You do.

Protests are designed to grab attention and piss people off. Some protests I agree with. Climate change, yes. Anti-vaxxers can die and preferably sooner rather than later and having statues for people who participated in mass murder is bizarre and they should be tossed in the nearest river. Or copy what they are doing in the US in removing statues of Confederate Generals who waged a war in defence of slavery.

Maybe if you me and others did more protesting you wouldn't have to just keep your head above the water. We all might have time to look around and breathe a little.

I understand selfish people doing well complaining about protesters because basically they are twats but the rest of us?
