Ok my fellow Blue's, I truly believe that come the summer we will actually look back on this season as one of transition.
If we start with the debacle of last summer, Bobby had a list of transfer targets that he knew would move the squad forward. Now for a number of reasons (Marwood included) we did not achieve any of those signings.
We instead got Garcia, Sinclair, Rodwell & Nastasic. Now out of those signings only Nastasic has cemented his position within the first team.
The next one is the failure of the champions league campaign, although we were a tad unlucky in madrid, we made tactical mistakes and were made to look ordinary in the remaining games. Now although bobby has to live with those mistakes he was not helped with the transfers that came in.
Now had we actually qualified from that group, i do believe that we would now be strengthening the squad in the January window, allowing us to progress in the knock-out stages of the competition.
Because we did not qualify, The owners, including Soriano & Txiki know that we have a squad available that still that can achieve at least one trophy this season. It will either be retaining the Premier league title or winning the FA Cup or hopefully both.
Also because we do not have extensive experience of qualifying for european football, we are not ranked highly by UEFA. Our current position this moment is ranked number 19. So we will have to again be aware that we will be in a tough group come next seasons campaign.
In terms of potential signings, I believe that Txiki is currently looking to recruit players whilst also looking to trim the squad. This will mean moving players out from the team roster that are surplus to requirements. Then bringing in talented younger players that can be signed on a fee and wage that does not outweigh what their contribution to the team will be.
Txiki actually carried out the same when he took over the same role at Barcelona, and he will be looking to do the same here.
The other situation is regarding our manager. I along with many appreciate all that Bobby has brought and achieved with our club.
This though does not mean that come the summer we may or may not, replace him with Pep. We are constantly linked with Pep due to his past links with Soriano & Txiki, and we will hear alot more till he actually joins a club.
Now i am not bothered whether we stick or replace Bobby. I believe that the people running our club know what direction they are taking our club in and what the next stage of development that will occur. Whoever is in charge will recieve my full support.
Now I do feel that because Pep is available both soriano & txiki will have looked at maybe bringing him in - i could be wrong but I do think they would have discussed it between themselves at the very least.
Come this summer whoever is in charge, the next stage of development will occur and we will have learnt lessons from last summer when so many mistakes were made.
