A320 Airbus Crashes In The Alps.

This crash should be the end of Lufthansa

A knee jerk reaction, if every airline was ended every time there was an incident caused by "pilot error" there would be no airlines left. Have a look at the worst loss of life in a plane crash and tell me if the airline for whom the pilot worked for should be closed, I would suggest that a whole country would be against your suggestion.

My missus is cabin crew and I said I don't think if she was in the cockpit if a pilot wanted to dive the plane there's a thing she could do about it, she said she could let others in, I said if I was the pilot I'd just incapacitate you first then do it, I'm sorry but if you really want to do it there would be no stopping you, accelerate to top speed and put in a dive, I don't think with people fighting in the cockpit the other pilot would be able to stop the dive, unless Gelsons Dad can correct me?

Depression mostly doesn't make people fly aeroplanes into mountains at 700kph. In fact with treatment most people get better and harm nobody.

In most cases people suffering from depression are only a risk to themselves. You might see suicide attempts and self-harm but generally they won't involve anybody else.

Ridiculous comment!
Its not so ridiculous. The eventual compensation could do them very serious damage, there are regulations with air crashes about how much can be claimed regards an 'accident', but with the way its shaping up, this isn't just as simple as a crash or pilot error, and its possible that there could be some guilt attached to the airline itself, if its proved they knew about his previous mental health issues, and as has been suggested he'd previously been suicidal. From the leaks and rumours so far, it certainly looks like they knew something. I think Lufthansa are well aware of this, and are doing their best to mitigate it already by being upfront with money, but once the investigation is complete the findings known (not just rumour and speculation), and the lawyers get their teeth into it, it could become very very costly for them.

I concur. And unfortunately I work for the LH group.

Can put an A320 into a dive by all accounts. Hence him doing the steady descent thing.

Plus I'd image they'd get one of the burly men cabin crew to watch the pilot...

My eldest daughter went to Munich yesterday on GermanWings/Lufthansa, and the captain was at the flight deck door when they got off the 'plane. Is this a new measure to reassure the passengers, I wonder?

No I've been on loads of flights where they do that bud.

Yes, but they're making sure you get off the bloody 'plane! ;-)

Only thing i can think of is if staff somehow send an alert beacon to ground control, they see its the pilot going nuts and they can override all door locks.
This would maybe freeze out manual control and auto to the pre determined course for say 5min that you would need to kick/punch whatever just stop the fucker.

The main issue is if someone really wants to do something, they will usually find a way to do it.
It is just a Kind of good thing people with suicidal tendencies do not tend to look to take others with them usually. Well not a good thing but you know what i am saying.

Don't be daft. There'll be pilots flying for pretty much every airline in the world that have suffered from depression at one stage or other.
Depression ? That's one thing but if the company new he had suicidal ideations
should he have been allowed to fly a plane

The real stupid thing is that even with a member of the cabin crew sat in the cockpit, what does she do if the co-pilot turns both engines off and locks her in with him?

It is absolutely ludicrous that any scenario can be prevented by any means. It is also so rare that there is no point in even bothering to try find a way to prevent it because if someone wanted it to happen they would find a way.

I see that the Insurer Allianz has set aside £300,000,000 to deal with this loss based on the cost of the plane plus standard compensation. If negligence is proven against Germanwings tho' that will be a drop in the ocean. May well be the end of Allianz

It's window dressing.
Somebody has to be seen to be doing something
And this is the something. Whether it has any effect is irrelevant.

should be an electronic system on the ground that prevents the pilots doing such a thing, and from deviating off course without express permission in cases of emergency, they should just be there to oversee, read the dials and make sure everything's cushty, in an ideal world.

Auto pilot and ground computer based flying of the plane. Pilots only on board if a risk arises. Surely this is capable with today's technology
