Just a thing on this flight deck procedure and this is in no way a slight on stewardesses, if it's 2 male pilots and one leaves the flight deck and a female steps in to replace him, whats to stop the male pilot overpowering the female and throttling her then having complete control of the cockpit once again?

What if one of the pilots was female? Same scenario surely.

Unless female pilots are only allowed while accompanied by female co pilots.

And no offence ladies but I ain't getting on dat plane.
you would be amazed how many female pilots there are .

How do you know that?

How many do you think I think there are?

Re: A320 Airbus Crashes In The Alps. BBC

Mind et al have issued a response to certain irresponsible headlines this morning:

"The terrible loss of life in the Germanwings plane crash is tragic, and we send our deepest sympathies to the families. Whilst the full facts are still emerging, there has been widespread media reporting speculating about the link with the pilot’s history of depression, which has been overly simplistic.

Clearly assessment of all pilots’ physical and mental health is entirely appropriate - but assumptions about risk shouldn't be made across the board for people with depression, or any other illness. There will be pilots with experience of depression who have flown safely for decades and assessments should be made on a case by case basis.

Today’s headlines risk adding to the stigma surrounding mental health problems, which millions of people experience each year, and we would encourage the media to report this issue responsibly.”

Not really mate, i'v been flying about 40 odd years and noticed the general increase of Females on the flight decks over the years, good luck to them as well, I remember flying to Cyprus about 3 years ago and the pilot was an American or Canadian Woman and it was one of the best flights i'v ever been on

Only two women have ever piloted the starship Enterprise, one of them crashed it and the other lost it!

Millions of people suffer from depression, are you suggesting that they are not allowed to hold down any responsible job, even when they are over it? It's attitudes like this that further stigmatises mental illness and prevents people getting help, we do not know what made him do what he did

It's perfectly reasonable expectation that you should be fit and healthy physically and mentally to hold an aviation licence. You can't even get one if you're colour blind or at least you couldn't. If you had a choice of two planes knowing both pilots on one were depressed and the two on another were not which would you choose?

You don't seem to understand depression and to honest I can't be bothered explaining it, but if I was going to pass comment I would have made sure that I actually had an understanding first
More patient than me.

Id have said, do one, you unthinking ****.

Ensign Ro piloted it fine.

When are the news outlets going to report on the name of the pilot who was trying to get back in. A true hero who did everything he could for his passengers to the end.
