Thanks for that, will be flying across the Pond tomorrow on an A330 then connecting on a similar A320 that went down this morning.

I'm flying with Jet2 to Kos in June, every time i'v flown with Jet2 it's been an Airbus A320, lovely!

Re: A320 Airbus Crashes In The Alps. BBC

It is now saying that no distress signal was made by the pilots.

It was air traffic control that signalled that the plane was in distress as no contact with the crew.

Re: A320 Airbus Crashes In The Alps. BBC

Terrible news, seems the plane has just fallen out of the sky?

The Airbus A320 is one of the most common planes in service today, usually for short haul flights.

This particular A320 was 24 years old, and I always think the older the plane the higher the potential risk.

I am flying Jet2 in July to Majorca, and no doubt it will be an A320.

The Germans and the French say they cannot rule anything out as to the cause and that includes terrorism, however US officials say terrorism is not the cause this time!

Seen this on twitter, aerial shot of the crash site.

Hidden it in a spoiler tag just in case, it isn't 'gruesome' or anything graphic, but shocking nonetheless. Mods delete if in appropriate. It just looks like confetti.

Silly question it may be, but what makes a plane obliterate like that, purely just the speed/impact? Would have expected bigger pieces, engine, wings, tail etc. Not speculating but I hope to god this isn't more than a harrowing accident.

Thoughts with the families of the victims. RIP.

For info, there have been 23 A320 losses out of 6452 aircraft delivered. The Boeing 737 figures are 158 out of 8385. The higher 737 figures are due to it being in service 20 years longer (since late 60s).

If you do a like for like comparison of the latest versions in recent years, the accident rate is broadly similar with slightly less A320 accidents. Rate is roughly one loss per 4 million flights.

According to the BBC feed, Airbus stated earlier today that an A320 takes off or lands every 2.5 seconds of every day.

High energy impact, given the rate of descent wasn't extremely high it looks like they hit the side of a mountain. They were doing over 400mph.

Grim. What do you think has happened here? No word from the cockpit at all apparently?

Is it possible (hoping) any loss of life could have happened at 38,000 feet, painlessly, and the aircraft just descended to it's end?

A near enough 10 minute descent of knowing you're about to die is horrific.

Neither.

Nimrod
L1011
Embraer
BAE/ Avro RJ
Bombardier CSeries

I've no more idea of what happened than the talking heads on the tv/radio but they should recover the CVR/FDR so we will find out in time.

I refuse to fly with any airline using the Boeing "Dreamliner"

Any company that seems that the answer to batteries catching fire is bigger lead cases is missing the point.

I been on both Boeing and Airbus and would never know the difference once onboard to be honest, however your right about that battery issue they had with the dreamliners, dodgy as fuck that, however again I'm a firm believer in when your times up your times up,but such a horrible way to go
