Emergency pal

From the reports I've read, there was no 7700 squawk from that aircraft.
Just putting out what a 'talking head' said on news earlier

Talking heads are renowned for talking shite in the immediate aftermath of an accident. I believe there was a 7700 squawk from an aircraft in Italy at a similar time which may have caused the confusion.

From what I can gather, the was no squawk change and no voice comms either. It appears that it was a fast but steady descent suggesting that the pilots were incapacitated.

Sky desperately trying to focus close up on stills of the crash site and asking an "expert" what he thinks he can see, desperate to see something I think none of us actually wants too.

150 have lost their lives, show some respect ffs.

Seen this on twitter, aerial shot of the crash site.

Hidden it in a spoiler tag just in case, it isn't 'gruesome' or anything graphic, but shocking nonetheless. Mods delete if in appropriate. It just looks like confetti.

Silly question it may be, but what makes a plane obliterate like that, purely just the speed/impact? Would have expected bigger pieces, engine, wings, tail etc. Not speculating but I hope to god this isn't more than a harrowing accident.

Thoughts with the families of the victims. RIP.

High energy impact, given the rate of descent wasn't extremely high it looks like they hit the side of a mountain. They were doing over 400mph.

Grim. What do you think has happened here? No word from the cockpit at all apparently?

Is it possible (hoping) any loss of life could have happened at 38,000 feet, painlessly, and the aircraft just descended to it's end?

A near enough 10 minute descent of knowing you're about to die is horrific.

Planes are usually on auto pilot at that altitude. If so then the plane would normally have run out of fuel before descending wouldn't it? Similar to that Greek plane that lost compression and all passengers were unconscious at impact.

Seems like something else, but where the pilot did not communicate the problem, so was either incapacitated or chose not to which is even more scary if the case.

Re: A320 Airbus Crashes In The Alps. BBC

I know it's still one of the safest modes of travel but there does seem to be a lot more of these crashes happening.

Don't trust them Airbus planes.
I'm flying with Jet2 to Kos in June, every time i'v flown with Jet2 it's been an Airbus A320, lovely!

Jet2 operates an all Boeing fleet - 737s and 757s

Re: A320 Airbus Crashes In The Alps. BBC

Terrible news today and my thoughts and prayers go out to all the poor victims and their families, i hope they eventually find a way to come to terms with this shocking event.

I agree, the media are total wankers with the way they report incidents like this, the last thing the families and friends need at this time are pictures of the devastation in the aftermath.

RIP

Phew! Thank fuck for that
Must'v got Airlines mixed up, I fly quite a lot

Re: A320 Airbus Crashes In The Alps. BBC

There's something a little weird about how the plane flew in a straight line during its rapid descent, seemingly after it had squawked emergency. Emergency decompression? Pilot suicide? Even a complete engine failure should have allowed some sort of control & communication. Strange.

Tragic for all those involved :(

There is absolutely no need for news broadcasts like this when friends and families of those lost are still coming to terms with the shocking news and are probably still trying to find out news themselves.

The editors should hang their heads in shame.

There's a few good aircraft people on here, can you tell us if it's safe for a 24 year old aircraft to be flying?
