I think too many overestimate Ake's speed. Ake is a fantastic defender. But he is slow as hell. He takes great positions and great angles to the ball. But in a foot race its like he is on slow motion. He does his best to not get into those situations. Credit to him for that. But he is ultra-slow.

Stones is actually quick for a Center back. I mean, if you've seen Rico chase down Salah before then you've seen him at top speed. What's really the question here? You think Ake can chase down Salah on his best day?

Let me be clear, as many seem confused... Ake is a far better defender than most. But he is NOT faster than many.

In the Champions League, which collates top speed. The fastest for Ake is 30.8 top speed for Rico its 32.2. Granted this is not decisive. As it could be the case that Ake has never needed to run as fast as he could. As a matter of fact, im almost certain that's the case. Ake hates being in a foot race, so he plays in a way that almost always avoid it.

But the few times his found himself in a foot race it was obvious why he avoids them. He is discerningly slow.

The fact that he is slow on his best day and now he is 30 just tell me there is no condition in which he is faster than Rico. ZERO!!!

No one is confused and it's patronising to suggest that. Honestly have no idea why you are characterising Aké as a fucking tanker though, when recovery pace (when fit) has always been one of his strengths, alongside positioning/duelling etc. You've picked stats from this season's CL, and tbh it's impressive Aké managed that pace with his injuries. As we are cherry picking, here's his pace from 22/23. Will he hit that again, possibly not but I'm not having the idea that he is or has always been ultraslow. It's nonsense. 1000084480.jpg

There must have been a hell of a tailwind that day Cancelo broke into a sprint

I accept your opinion but agree with none of it.

Akanji's passing is awful and he's very often the person who has last passed to the City player who loses the ball, because he either provides hospital passes OR gives people the ball when they're not in a position to receive it. He also gets caught on the ball in dangerous positions too much, as him losing the ball v. Inter against Martinez & Spurs away last season (Ortega save) will attest. Note that I don't say he's not a good defender, but being a modern defender is about more than just defending.

Nunes I absolutely love as a human being, and from the majority of inside City videos etc. I think that you can see that this is shares by the squad. He hasn't been excellent for us this season, he's just been a player who has exceeded expectations rather than someone who has underwhelmed (as with the rest of the squad). As stated, this doesn't make him excellent. Love the guy though, but squad player at the absolute best.

Savinho is not a right winger. He's a left wingers (as most analysis videos & his performance for Girona last season will tell you). He crosses best with his left foot (service is something that Haaland desperately needs), shoots better with his left, and probably wouldn't have even been played on the right (save some in game switching) if it wasn't for Bobb getting injured.

Anyway, that's what I base my statements on, just so you wouldn't think I was someone who just blurted out shite for no reason.
Fair enough. Disagree completely with Akanji. He is one of our most reliable defenders, even including his (very occasional) silly mistakes. His passing isn't as good as our midfielders or someone like Laporte, but is at least on the level of our other main CBs like Dias and Aké.

Nunes is fair, maybe excellent is a stretch but certainly been one of our better players this season. I never claimed he wasn't a squad player either tbf.

I also never claimed Savinho is a right winger, in fact I say he's better on the left. I just asserted that Savinho is good on the right (but definitely nowhere near as good as the left). I agree that Bobb would be starting on the right if he hadn't broken his leg.

Can’t have been over a long distance but he was rapid over the first few yards! Can’t see Phil hitting those speeds again either!

Good nation to have onboard..
36 million of them.

More than Croatia, Iceland, Serbia, Denmark, Norway and Portugal all put together. Ish…
Things like this can make a difference. Didn’t they say they’ve had to put on extra flights from Olso to Manchester because of Haaland.

Albeit he’s a superstar and Norway is a lot closer than Uzbekistan.

Do you want to know why?

Because Stones balanced out Dias' irrational mistakes. Stones tends to marshall Dias, not the other way around as many on BM seem to think. So, when calm happens, confidence happens in the back four and we haven't really had that constantly, since Stones' injury and lengthy time out of the team.
Yep, bit like Distin with Dunney.

I think the injuries have slowed him down a touch, he's lost a yard of pace no doubt.

If he gets into a foot race against someone reasonably quick from close to the halfway line he really struggles with his running style, almost like he's overstretching himself. When he gets into these situations I'm always thinking don't pull a muscle.

Stones is incredible. I hope we offer him an extension but surround him with young players that can cover his minutes when injured.

I think a lot of our injuries are caused by having such a small squad. Pep expects the very best even in training day in day out and sometimes they don’t have enough time to fully recover.

Stones in the CL final was a masterpiece and so many solid defensive performances I just don’t want to see him leave.

I’d have him here for life, if I could. His experience and ability would be amazing for young centre backs (even just the two/three we’re rumoured to be signing this window!) and he’s said in the past he’d love to end his career here.

Whether that means he’s happy taking a back seat and offering advice (as I’m sure was the plan for Gundogan pre-injury meltdown) I’m not sure. But I’d hope it’d be offered to him and I’d be buzzing if it happened.

The best defender we have, when fit, and the best English defender in years. A Rolls Royce of a footballer but has the aggression and bollocks to dig deep too. Mint. Love the guy.
