Zabba was never the best right back in the country. Even when he was at his peak, Walker at Spurs and Ivanovic at Chelsea were better.
Looking at the PFA teams of the year. Zabba gets in it once. Hes a legend of the club and an absolute warrior. But that does not make him the best right back in the country.
Zabaleta absolutely was the best right-back in the country during the calendar years of 2012 and 2013. I'd also have peak Zaba over peak Ivanovic

Richards was a poor man’s Walker, Zabba was levels ahead of him as a footballer. Link play, touch, passing and crossing. Zabba properly established himself towards the end of that season and was soon recognised as the best right back in the country.
I guess the debate boils down to:

If you could pick one of the 2012 version of Zabaleta or the 2018 version of Walker, which would you choose?

Walker for me.

The likes of Chuckle said he was and he’s knows a bit about playing right back. I’d rather have Zabba at his peak than Ivanovic in an attacking side. He was a miles better actual footballer than Walker too. Admittedly in this Pep side Walker has been superb for stopping counters before showing how limited a player he actually was by falling off a cliff due to losing a couple of yards

Agreed. I know it's heresy, but he was a tiny bit overrated because he wore his heart on his sleeve and gave his all for the club. He wasn't nearly the best right-back in the world, you could argue that Walker had a few years as that.

Yes, exposing yourself in public where there are plenty of cameras is the work of someone with a brain.

Getting caught pissing in public, the same.

Cheating on your Mrs and fathering kids with another woman and expecting it all not to come out…

The guy is literally the definition of brain dead.

Great player for us over the years though.
So Kyle is 'literally the definition of braindead' is he?

Ivanovic was a CB, forced to play RB, to get in the team.

A bit like William Gallas,also.

So I would always pick Zaba for RB.

But never as a CB!!!

If this bloke we have signed is anywhere as good as the above 3 names, in time??

Then he will be a very good defender!!! :0)

I’d throw Ivanovic into the best full back list as well. He was class for Chelsea. Embarrassing that people throw Neville and Carragher’s names in there. Two very average fullbacks.

Gary Neville was an average fullback? I'm not sure if you're on drugs or need to be.

He made 600 appearances at the richest and most dominant club in the country and got 85 caps for England, winning 8 league titles and 2 Champions League. He was also voted into the PFA Team of the Century, the PL 20 Years Team and was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. That wasn't because he won a raffle.

Jesper Bonqvist won the CL.

I prefer to remember when the Goat mugged Neville off and showed him up for what he was.

Apologies for going off topic. The best right back discussion has nothing at all to do with our new signing. Although, its been interesting to hear peoples views.

Walker for me.
Was on about Richards.Would depend if we had other quick defenders or not. Walker probably shades it but when Silva played on the right Zabba linked so well with him and Walker wouldn’t have been able to that as well as he could.

You could also argue there aren’t many great right backs in the world these days! I’m not sure he was overrated at his peak but was loved by the fans so probably got cut more slack than some. He was a very good footballer in terms of touch and link up play but lacked a yard or 2 for the perfect right back. Ironically Walker was the opposite.

I’m not a fan of Walker in the slightest just never taken to him as a bloke. No denying he’s been an absolutely outstanding fullback and despite what the press said at the time he turned out to be a snip at £50M

Hello everyone,

Lens fan here.

I come to tell you about Khusanov, maybe you don't know him well.
(forgive my bad english !!)

Khusanov strengths :

1) Physical strength !

Khusanov is very, very strong physically. Here an example :

Against Jonathan David, Lille, derby of north :

2) Speed !
He runs very fast, here an example of defensive run :

3) Tackles
Many slide tackles, very satisfying to watch.

4) Mindset
He is a very brave and a very determined player. If he has to take a shot right in the head to prevent a goal, he won't hesitate for a second. Courageous player.

In Lens, all players said they were impressed by his strength, even Kevin Danso, who is an extremely solid defender.

Weaknesses now :

1) Fouls

So strong and courageous that sometimes he goes too far. Yellow cards, one red card and some penalties given here in Lens. Example of red here against PSG :

2) Technique
Don't get me wrong, Khusanov is not bad at all - actually his passes are quite good, especially long passes - but he needs to step up for a top class club like Man City. Stop making fouls while defending.

Head game, he's decent, but that's not his main quality. Sometimes a bit surprised by long aerial balls.

In short :

Khusanov is a great recruit for the future. Very strong defensively. Can play at 3 or at 4 defenders, he played in both systems with Lens, so he is already polyvalent. He arrived in a very effective defence (the best in Ligue 1 at the time) and gradually earned his place with high level perfomances, putting the usual starter on the bench. I can not see him as a Man City starter right now, but step by step, why not next year ? I strongly believe in him.

Well, I'm done. If you have any question on Khusanov, feel free to ask.

Last thing :
Beat PSG please !!!

He could also make good defensive decisions too. Walker is all pace and fuck all else.

He was, between 2012-2014.
