Accents

When I was kid my dad, when talking to a stranger, could tell within a 20 mile radius where they were from.

Still cant beat a Geordie accent, even better on a lass.
Southern Irish, even better on a woman
Dont like Cornish or Norfolk, sound as if they are stupid to me.
Hate Scouse, can cut concrete with it.
Getting to like a Brummie accent mainly because we're surrounded by them.
South M/cr....born and bred, doable obviously.
South Walian, completely incomprehensible.
Norn Iron ...?????
Anything Jock on the east side, again, incomprehesible.

Personally I don't think I have an accent. Was born and brought up in Leeds but my parents were from South East London and Lincolnshire, and I've now lived in Staffordshire for about 20 years. Over the years I've worked in Leeds, York, Doncaster, Birmingham and London.
When I worked in London, my colleagues could tell I was "northern" but couldn't place where from. When I return to Leeds, I sound nothing like any of my mates, and I certainly don't have a Staffs accent!
Maybe I've just become "generic Northern" as I've moved around so.much?
