ACON - which date does it run from and to?

A lot of people assume it's a given that we'll lose both Toures for a month, but the Ivory Coast have to beat Senegal in a two-legged play off to qualify, which is far from a formality.

In answer to your question, 19 January – 10 February 2013.

Wish Yaya had decided to retire, he hinted that he would but Kolo has come out and said they are both going to play, should they qualify.

It was a shame they lost the final this year, as I imagine both might well have retired in a blaze of glory if they had won it.

ACON being played again in the middle of our season drives me absolutely f****** crazy. It's being played in South Africa so if they could host the World Cup in June why do they have to hold ACON in January-February.

FIFA/UEFA are morons, on the one hand they want everyone to get their revenue /spending in balance - on the other hand they take a player that we are paying £200,000 per week to out of the club for a month or more at a critical point in the season. One of the main reasons we need to make an expensive signing this summer is precisely because we have to have cover for this absence. (as it is so obviously such a big miss when he is away)

Does anyone know if we have to pay for the privilege of him buggering off for a month or do FIFA pick up the tab? If we are paying then I honestly don't think that it is on. Much as I rate the guy I hope the club has the sense to avoid buying any more African players as this issue is going to re-occur at regular intervals. I might be bordering on melodrama here but that f****** competition (coinciding with Kompany's ban) cost us dearly last season and almost cost us the title.

As we saw last season titles can be won and lost on very fine margins. We really don't need this, I don't think it's a coincidence that United have no African players. No more African players after the Toure's eventually leave as far as I am concerned - why carry on shooting ourselves in the foot?

But the reason for it being run next year is to bring it into line with the Euro's and the World Cup, so no issue with buying future African players

We must improve the squad, need to identify and sign quality md to cover Yaya, otherwise we'll find CL life hard!!!!

Barcelona and Madrid are constantly improving, add 2/3 new playerst o the squad every year, that's our bench-mark!!!

We're Champions, we have strong squad, it's all nice and lovely!!! BUT we can't just take our foot off the gas and slow down...let improve what we have
