ACON - which date does it run from and to?

As we saw last season titles can be won and lost on very fine margins. We really don't need this, I don't think it's a coincidence that United have no African players.

Games around that time - a few key ones

01 January 2013 15:00 H Stoke City Barclays Premier League
12 January 2013 15:00 A Arsenal Barclays Premier League
19 January 2013 15:00 H Fulham Barclays Premier League
29 January 2013 19:45 A QPR Barclays Premier League
02 February 2013 15:00 H Liverpool Barclays Premier League
09 February 2013 15:00 A Southampton Barclays Premier League
23 February 2013 15:00 H Chelsea Barclays Premier League

Thanks Mad Eyed Screamer (relatively new on the site - not immediately obvious how to respond to a post directly- need a 5 year to ask!)

Glad ACON is moving, thanks for that. But are you sure the timing is changing? As I understood it, it would always be played in the middle of our season because climatic conditions dictated that it would only be feasible to hold it at that time of year in most African countries.

I hope I am wrong but unless we have really good back up for YaYa that month's absence could cost us dearly - it's exactly the time of year when injuries are mounting, mid-week cup games are at their peak and he is central to the way the whole team is set up. At the very least it destabalises the team as it did last year. It just pisses me off, given the money we pay these guys, that FIFA thinks it's fine to have them all bugger off for a month at our expense

From wiki
Ahead of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations several European clubs called for a rethink of the tournament's schedule. As it takes place during the European season, players who are involved miss several matches for their clubs.[9]

In January 2008, FIFA president Sepp Blatter announced that he wanted the tournament to be held in either June or July by 2016, to fit in the international calendar, although this would preclude many countries in central and west Africa from hosting the competition (as these months occur during their wet season).[10]

In May 2010, it was announced that the tournament would be moved to odd-numbered years from 2013. This will mean the tournament will not take place in the same year as the World Cup. It also means there will be two tournaments within twelve months in January 2012[11] (co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea) and January 2013 (hosted by South Africa).[2]

On 29 January 2011, Morocco won the bid to host the 2015 edition and South Africa won the right to host the 2017 tournament. But due to the 2011 Libyan civil war, Libya and South Africa traded years with South Africa hosting in 2013 and Libya hosting in 2017

Still don't understand why 2013 couldn't have been in the off-season as we know that the timing is no problem in South Africa. At least it sounds as though it is being resolved long-term. Thanks for the info
