Actfortheact - Save the human rights act now

Reading this thread there seems to be an opinion that the ECHR imposes it's self on us all the time when the figures are in fact tiny.

In 2014 the uk referred 1997 cases, 1970 of them were thrown out as inadmissible, in the remaining cases 4 were found to have broken the law. In 2013, 3 were found to have broken the law and this year so far zero have.

The problem is the media, they like to kick up a fuss and then never actually say a case was kicked out.

I won't be signing.

That's because I have faith in the ability of the people of this country to decide their own human rights laws.

I see no reason to submit to European laws on the matter.

After all, within the lifetime of my fit and healthy parents Europe has seen genocide and slaughter of civilians on a huge scale, and even now we see EU members refusing refugees because of their religion.

We have nothing to learn from Europe when it comes to human rights.

If anything, Europe could learn from us.

We wrote most of the Laws that the ECHR use anyways.

Thing is, the only reason to get rid of it is to be able to treat people worse than we do at the moment, which isn't a good thing. I honestly believe if it goes one of the main things that will happen is the death penalty will be bought back in.

Removing the oversight of the ECHR can only lead to bad things so some people.

what we have done in the past is pretty much irrelevant at this point, its what we are doing now and plan to do in the future that we need to be concerned about.

Our laws should be made by us, via our elected representatives.

As for the Human Rights Act, it was enacted by an elected government.

All Acts of Parliament can be kept, altered or scrapped by subsequent elected governments.

That's democracy.

Removing decisions to remote, relatively unaccountable organisations like the EU/ECHR or even worse to corrupt bodies like the UN's human rights council, is bad for democracy and therefore bad for us.

Why should we trusts this bunch of EU/ECHR people to make decisions about our human rights?
