Hello Gangerolv!!

Oh dear, Oh Dear, Downing is LEFT footed, Bentley is RIGHT footed, and once heir apparent to Beckham FACT. Whilst I would AGREE with you, THAT indeed, WHEN BENTLEY IS ON HIS GAME he is definately BETTER than Downing.

HOWEVER, Its not about their RESPECTIVE abilities, its about WHERE they play on the pitch, Bentley would never make the squad or any team as a left sided mid-fielder.

WHY? Because he is RIGHT FOOTED.

(Sigh ) Read the posts properly please.

Hargreaves is the only recognised holding mid-fielder, when he was fit he was PROBABLY the best in the world.

Again the post states he (HARGREAVES) is unlikely to be FIT. SO conclusion? He won't be going.

But that Capello still hopes he might be.

F*** me

Is that why United shifted him out to right back or right wing?

Johnson seems to have far more potential than the likes of Downing and Bentley. He can actually dribble past players which they cannot, he seems equally effective on either wing and he can cross the ball well. Players like Downing and Bentley don't have the fear factor...players like lennon and, I believe, Johnson have it because they have the confidence to run straight at defenders causing panic stations.

Uhh Ferguson is the United Manager I believe, I might be mistaken. Ferguson has those decisions to make, Capello who is ENGLAND manager would prefer him as holding mid-fielder.

However he can play at right back, and can do a decent job right hand side. or the uninformed if Hargreaves was fit he would indeed act as cover for Right Back.

Most QUALITY pundits/correspondents who know a bit, would state the same. Martin Samuel and James Barclay? Ever read them?

Pretty F****** Irrelevant as he is injured though, don't you think?

Stop patronising everyone it shows a chronic lack of class.

I was more referring to him being the "best holding midfielder" in the world. Ferguson is far from an idiot, if he had the best in the world in a position I'd bet my house he would be played in that position most of the time.

But you're right, he is perennially crocked so it doesn't matter.

I was far from being patronising, he was actually for a time and if fit recognised as PROBABLY the best holding mid-field player in the world. He was purchased by Ferguson, because as a utility player he could cover 3 maybe 4 positions, a very valuable commodity, much like Essien is invaluable at Chelsea.

The topic is about the merits of the inclusion of Johnson, I argued he is a shoe-in as a natural left hand sided player, more so than Downing, someone answers that Bentley is better than Downing, rendered irrelevant as he plays on the right. I make a case that with what is available Johnson will go to World Cup. Unless Hargreaves makes a miraculous recovery, also that capello would like to take him.

When the debate is about Johnson and trying to justify his inclusion, to argue about where Ferguson plays him when available seems more than mildly confrontational. That also lacks class.

But we agree irrelevant, by the way, mildly interested in you opinion on this one, do you think Johnson will go?

Is the bit I thought was patronising. But I'm not too fussed, we can agree to disagree on this.

To be honest I wasn't even following the thread, I just saw a rag getting unjust praise and challenged it ;) Hes a good player yes, but no way near the best in the world in that position. Lacks the experience of big games coming thick and fast plus the pressure thats put on you, its easy to come in fresh and put in a few stormers with the whole "Just back from injury" under lying any faults then back to the sick bed. This is partly why I rate Lampard so highly, he is just a machine when it comes to big games.

I think it all depends, if he gets weekly football and we finish top 4 I think he will. But if he barely plays and we finish 6th I can't see it. Like it or not most coaches look favourably upon players who are seen as winners and high achievers. I think this is the main reason we have been seemingly under represented in other England teams (That and us having a load of shite playing).
