is it just me or does anyone else think he lacks the real pace to be a world class winger?

he has all the skill and tricks but sometimes just looks a bit pedestrian and Rick Holden like!!

he also looks a tad unfit and seems to tire soon after half time - maybe he will take time to adjust to the pace of the premiership?

btw I'm not having a go at him and really like him - just a few honest observations

"Rick Holden like" - what are you like when you do have a go?

Adam Johnson is quick enough to succeed. He combines it with great control and direct play to great effect. Whilst he may not be in that top bracket of Walcotts and Ashley Youngs for pace, he's not exactly slow or even average, and he is in actuality a different kind of player to them anyway.

He reminds me of Chris Waddle.
Not very fast but contains a great delivery.

I know what you mean, he'd certainly be a much more frightening winger if he had an extra yard or so. We'll just have to see how he develops

Early days, but I think he has the makings of a very good player. Certainly better than anything we've had in a long time.

Looks quick enough for me and looks dangerous everytime he gets the ball!

More direct than Weiss and the best crosser of the ball we have with only Petrov comming anywhere near.

Nah there are one or two slightly sadder twats on here than me

Oh.My.God.
Not another slagging off thread.

Give the guy a chance - he hasn't played in the Prem before and is young.

What do you want? The complete winger? Every player has their faults.

Jonno has real potential - i for one can tell he's a class act, as i'd wager can most level headed, football fans.

Cant see anyone slagging anyone off!!!

Its called a debate FFS!

How boring would it be if we cant discuss the merits of our own players!

Anyone for Knitting!!!

Lovely bit of tubthumping

Good player going off his performances so far. Can maybe go missing sometimes but hes young and adapting so i wouldnt count that as a problem. Only thing i dont really like is hes sooo one footed, like to see players using both feet but that point can be directed at most of the players in the prem.

It must be remembered that he's gone from a Championship side to top four in the Prem. That's a quantum leap.

He's not there yet, but has hatfuls of potential. The signs are good though.

Anyone remember John Robertson?

You don't need great pace to be a great winger

Modern game has changed anyway. You need more than just an ability to get past the fullback. Obviously pace is an asset. But all round technique matters more. Think Johnson is quick enough
