Advice for first Etihad match

Don't go. City's style of possession football is painfully dull to watch. The build up play is slow and repetitive, with the ball being passed from side to side over and over again with no end result. City will have at least 70% possession but that is meaningless because most attacking moves don't result in goal scoring opportunities. Also we can't defend to save our lives. Spurs only need one break in midfield during the match and they are guaranteed to score.
Save your money. Watch the game on TV and then go out for a nice family meal.

dont go is my advice after reading bluemoon since we went out of the CWC , pep only plays his favorites, everyone else buys great players and we buy shit ,liverpool have already won the league and we will be lucky to finish in the top half, pep has lost his mojo and if rico plays we will get relegated

Don't worry about getting a seat. There will be 1000's of empty seats to choose from. ;-)

No need to go mate, just contribute to the matchday thread like the proper diehards do.

Could also doss in the white elephant above the 1st tier of the north stand , lazy bastards couldn't even be arsed to put seats in there

General trip advice - wear something indicating you are Canadian as English people generally like Canucks a lot more than Yanks.

If possible it would be great to travel up to Manchester the previous day so you have more time in the city before the game. It would be great to do a stadium tour and your daughter would love getting a picture at Foden's place in the changing room.

It would be useful if you could all wear baseball caps with a "Trump is a Wanker" logo.

I work on that railway, don't buy advance tickets , don't use Trainline or any other 3rd party tickets companies, they are a non facing organisation and you can't get refunds.

Fixtures change will be announced on Wednesday/tomorrow.

It's going to be busy in Manchester that weekend.

I'd look at possibly staying somewhere about an hour from Manchester as hotel prices will be skyhigh.

Trains will be frequent then and not full of spurs fans .

You could stay in say Shrewsbury York or Chester all lovely places ,then you only have a hour journey to Manchester on the day of the game .

Booking.com and vio.com for accommodation will give you the best prices.

Merchandise... Arndale is the best in the City centre.

Just take a Uber to the stadium.

Foden scarf off a vender near the ground.

Enjoy ya stay .

Ps up the leafs
Excellent plan not being in London and then travelling for the game that weekend.

Engineering works on west coast mainline from 23-25 so, from the start of service on Saturday until the end of service on Monday, Avanti West Coast trains will run the following reduced service:
  • Two trains per hour between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly

Kings Cross line closed to Peterborough from 2200 on the 23rd until 0800 on the 25th so West Coast likely to be busier as well.

  • Visit one of the chippies near the stadium
  • Walk the canal route to see the industrial heritage
  • Walk canal street to see the Gay Village
  • Take in the Vimto bottle on Granby Row
  • Visit St Peter's Square for statue of Emmeline Pankhurst and the Peterloo Masacre memorial behind the Midland Hotel
  • Go to Shambles Square and visit the Cathedral
  • Walk round the stadium to see the statue's of Bell, Lee, Summerbee, Silva, Kompany and Aguero
Have a great time you will be made very welcome.
Vimpto.

As others have said...
Wait for fixture confirmation.
Do not buy a half'n'half scarf.

Stay overnight in altrincham, so you don't have to mix with the riff-raff.
Travel to Manchester on the tram and enjoy a stroll through Ancoats and along the canal to the ground.
Under no circumstances allow your daughter to interact with any of the freaks on bluemoon...
I partly agree with this but...... stay overnight in Eccles, you can get the tram direct from Eccles to the Etihad.

As the grandmother of 2 Canadians I think I might be ok to interact with.

Do the stadium tour and you can get a thingymabob/interaction with a virtual Pep. Plus your daughter can sit in Foden's seat (& John Boy's but that's only allowed for 10 seconds!!) ;-)

Have the time of your life. 99% of the City fans are great people. The 1% are ok but they tend to be a bit daft.... ;-)

Hello and apologies if this content is covered elsewhere.

My daughter is a huge City Fan and as part of our trip to the UK this summer, we plan on attending the home match vs. Spurs. I'd appreciate any advice from the forum on how to maximise the experience for her.

As we are a large family, we will likely get tickets through one of the City Hospitality packages (either Legends or one of the bars, if available). We will be taking making a day trip from London but want to give her a full experience. Some questions I have are:
  • How early should we plan to arrive in Manchester? Are there pre-match activities that we would want to participate in?
  • Where is the best place to buy MCFC stuff, beyond what is available online? She really wants a Foden scarf.
  • Are there must-visit local establishments (pubs, restaurants, retail, etc.) near the stadium that we should visit?
  • How insane will it be post-match in terms of getting to the train station? How much time should we plan?
  • Any other match attendance etiquette we should be aware of? We want to be respectful while maximising the fun.

Good luck getting a tickets !

You should be able to get a Foden Scarf from one of the street sellers on the walk to the ground from town

So you run a B&B do you, kept that quiet.

Can't help I'm afraid. Never been.
Too full of northern monkeys who walk funny and spend all day arguing over what to call a bread roll.

Canadians have a legal requirement to stitch a maple leaf to their rucksack and tell everyone they meet they're Canadian so they don't need to worry about that bit!
