Advice needed re possible speeding ticket

Went into town last week on motorbike past a speed van parked up I was only doing 30 so all good. Coming back 20 mins later forgot about the van till I saw it glanced at speedo 38 oh flip, as I was still a fair way from van pulled over and pushed my bike backwards into a side street then bogged off to cut a long story short will they be able to cross reference the earlier pic as obviously they will have no reg for the second.
I doubt very much that Dixon of Dock Green sat in his van will
A. Recall that you drove past him 20 mins ago
B. Give a shit.

My last two speeding offence prosecutions were both 79 in a 70
Two different constabularies, North Yorkshire and North Wales
The getting away with it limit is 10%+1 almost everywhere
Once you are 10% + 2mph you are game
As in Prestwich_blue Post above, it's a 'recommendation' there is no 'law' about what can/can't/will or won't get you a ticket. I know traffic cops down here, and on a motorway, in their words " little traffic, have to be over 80 to even be interested" that's more than quoted. In a 30 near a school or pedestrian busy....very unlikely to get away with anything over 30.
Real answer is....don't break speed limit, you won't have a problem. Discussing how far above a speed limit you can "get away with" is like discussing "how much can I drink, and get away with".

If you search online someone did a FOI request to every constabulary and nearly all cited prosecution started at 10%+2
This was cameras and mobile units
General traffic police can't be arsed unless you're really travelling

Hang on.
Something is not right here.
This is a very troubling development

3 pages ago some bloke posted that his daughter had been copped speeding and no one, not one solitary soul has asked for pics.

Place is fucked. I'm out.

We all assumed it was an elaborate sting designed to catch us wrong uns and the 'father' is non uniform plod.

I was travelling to and from Chester on motorway on 2nd June. There was a variable speed limit of 60mph. I was probably doing 70mph on the way there and on the way back. Nothing has arrived in the post re fine.
I then realised when I moved house 4 years ago despite notifying DVLA of my new address, I totally forgot to have my new address changed on my log book. Any potential paperwork will have gone to my old address.

The people who bought my house did forward onto me the proof I sold the car sent by DVLA to my old address. I have asked them if they have had any other letter for me in the past 2 weeks, they have said no.

I am now in a situation where I could end up in court for not responding to any letter sent to me by Cheshire Police even if they were sent to the wrong address.

Should I phone Cheshire Police to ask if I was caught speeding and risk admitting to them that I may have been speeding, or just not do anything?
Call them. "Unless something mentioned earlier" etc.

Thought I’d jump on the back of this thread…
My daughter has been done twice within an hour for speeding by a mobile going to and from a venue. Any experts think she has any grounds to appeal one or is she up the creek?
Nothing through appeal. There is nothing to appeal. If she is at risk of losing licence as a result then it is still ridiculously difficult when you weigh up cost risk against reward. Nobody gets very far in Magistrates court.

She was taking grandson to a swimming lesson, got done once on the way once on the way back.
I think they’ve accepted their fate, but just thought I’d check

The questions you should be asking are what’s her excuse for speeding with a kid in the car, and why was she also not paying attention to the road hence getting done twice.

Think you'd be surprised at how easy it is to avoid a ban
An ex client who ran a business, was caught speeding on the M1 travelling at 110, which should be an automatic ban
He attended the magistrates court, had the day solicitor speak on his behalf about his business and his responsibility to his employees and the magistrate asked him if he would agree to a six point penalty and £250 fine

No. Definitely two sets of points

I think this is because if they were to start fining everyone for 32 or 33 miles an hour in a 30 it is possible that either the gun or the speedometer in the car was “out” by a mile or two and could easily be challenged.
Giving the 10 miles above rule means that even allowing for a variation of a possible 2 or 3 incorrect mph out, a challenge of the actual speed would leave no doubts that the driver was exceeding the limit

Last year I got off with a fine and points.
In Florida there are lawyers who will get you off and points free.
I was doing 65 in a 30 (3 lane approach road to Tampa airport) which was a $250 fine and points on the licence.
I had done a speeding course maybe 6 months before so couldn’t take it again.
A work colleague told me to ring one of these traffic lawyers and I’d get off…..

Called them and he said I’d get off - and the fee is $50 more than the fine, so $300.
I was told to plead not guilty and let them take care of it.
I asked “how does this work seeing as I am guilty?” And the reply was “the traffic cops never show up in court so I get the case dismissed.”
The cop didn’t show up and the case was dismissed!

I think it has changed a little bit though. It always used to be over 100 was instant ban (Or that is what I thought). My BiL got 6 points for 104mph last year. There is more heavy weighting against youngster now, I believe?? 6 points in your first 2 years means you have to retake your test?

Times are changing with regard to the 10% plus 2 mph leeway.

Some forces now have a zero tolerance and prosecute for 1 mph over the limit.

Cameras are much more accurate than they used to be, and the advice now is to accept the speed being shown on your speedometer as your actual speed.
