Blame FIFA & UEFA for this mate. AFCON was forced to switch its calender to summer because the European clubs wanted it that way despite African nations telling them that the climate in June & July is not conducive for good football.

Bit of a myth this, actually.

Some 40% of Africa is south of the equator. And about 50% of it is within 15° of the equator (where there is little difference in average temperature between January and July). It's only really the north Saharan countries which experience significantly hotter weather in June / July than in January.
