Afcon how PL teams may be affected

It’s not a "shit tournament".

It’s the equivalent of the Euros, and therefore a very important part of the African and international football calendar.

To denigrate it in such a way shows complete ignorance.
Agreed. It's not a shit tournament. But the timing of it stinks. Right in the middle of the European football season. And yes; I know the argument is put forward that, during our close season, the weather is just too hot. When they staged the World Cup in South Africa, wasn't that in our summer months?

I agree with those saying it’s not a shit tournament. Is right up there for quality and athleticism. My argument is, why do they not have a European break like the Qatar World Cup? There’s 50 players on that list - many are teams key players- that will be missing. Makes a farce out of any top league having to deal with this.

The timing of the World Cup in South Africa meant it was in their winter.

And as the continent spans the equator, some African countries are in the northern hemisphere, so they have the same seasons as we do, albeit warmer, I’d imagine.

Is there any reason why they can't limit the staging of the tournaments to countries in the south of the continent?

Presumably because ACoN wants to share it around, and countries in the north of the continent want to stage it.
That's fine. But it seems very unfair on European clubs that have invested in African players. AFCON, though, seem unwilling to compromise with the clubs on this issue. And I guess it's not going to change at this stage. Are the clubs compensated financially for losing their players in the middle of the season?

I have absolutely no idea, J.

Clubs know the risks of signing African players, J.

No one forces them to acquire lads from that continent.

Fortunately, we’re well covered for both Rayan A-N and Omar.

I'm assuming that, in comparison, to an equivalent European player African players are cheaper. Consequently, clubs like Sunderland will be tempted to look at the African Market. I still think it's tough on the club's, mind.

Marmoush and Ait-Nouri basically have been missing all season anyway. If they want to fuck off to play in this then I wouldn't be rushing to put them back in matchday squads on their return.

It was fully intended that the AFCON would be played in the summer of 2025 and then good old FIFA came along and announced the Club World Cup, effectively forcing the hand of AFCON to move to a winter tournament, given the World Cup is next summer.

It’s not a case of "if they want to play in the ACoN".

If they are selected by their respective countries, they are compelled to go, unless they’re injured, of course.

Or of course just say no while a present manager is running the national team, many players have said no and gone back when a manager left.

Imagine playing international games getting injured consistently and expecting your club to foot the bill just for you to fuck off when internationals pop up again?

Thankfully we wont miss out by losing important players like other clubs will.
