100 years ago or so - perhaps a ruthless invading army could convert the populace to a prefered government - killing every single individual and their wives and their children in a very obvious and public way.

But the appetite for that sort of brutal occupation in support of regime change is morally abhorrent - indeed, even the Russians didn't follow this plan.

A large percentage or perhaps a majority of people in Afghanistan favor religious rule and an independent Muslim state. And they are more then willing to die for it.

Regime change is a failed mission unless you want to kill every single resident in opposition.

We're out of Afghanistan now and are no longer in the business of regime change. Afghanis will need to sort out their future on their own.

Credit to Biden for ending this idiotic conflict - blame on Biden that it was not accomplished with less bloodshed.

As a political matter - I think it makes zero difference. Already the news coverage on Afghanistan is fading - in a few more months Biden's missteps won't matter at all.
