It's not all that bad. I've seen him in Holland and he is a proper quality player. Every striker gets murdered in the ultra defensive Boro team.

This guy scored more goals than Huntelaar in a worse team. I'm certain that if Alves wore the blue of City he would be sensational. Boro paid 12 mil for him. City should snap him up for 7.

this is where I stake my usual claim for my favourite ever all time city strikers - (Sir)Clive Allen and (Sir)Paul Walsh.

On the Alves front - think it proves that a bagful in Holland means nothing over here. Their very best are class, but a bagful of dutch league goals isnt an indicator

I wouldn't describe Boro as ultra-defensive.

Alves has the knack of getting into scoring situations, but I've never seen a striker miss so many chances. His time in Holland showed he could finish.

I think there's a good player there, but he's very short on confidence

I was a bit disappointed when he went to Boro too, but he'll turn out to be a bit of a disastrous signing.

Still think he has something to offer, but it will probably be at another club.
