Aguero injures hamstring on international duty

I said it last year that if over the next 2/3 years we don't start seeing 3/4 of a season ( ideally a full season FFS ) out of Sergio, then we needed some serious back up. We didn't address it last summer ( mainly due to FFP I know ) but going into a season with 3 strikers, ( 2 of which we knew were injury prone - Sergio & Jovetic ) we did nothing - even bloody Dzeko then got injured. We finally signed Bony in January who then did what - oh yes, got injured playing for Ivory Coast.

We've passed it up again this summer, going into a season with only 2 proven strikers in Sergio & Bony, yes the youngsters may step up and possibly Sterling offers some type of cover, but it all seems very short sighted to me, the writings been on the wall for some time.

Well said, but there genuinely aren't that many great second/third choice strikers about.. Especially when replacing arguably the best striker in the world.

I quite like Berahino and he plays in a similar manner to Kun (more so than Bony anyway).. But again his asking price was a complete rip off.

Pellegrini's excuse is "i couldn't rotate because i had 11 injuries" when he was asked about strong line up at Sunderland, he is too scared to play couple of youngsters from the start.
Pellegrinis attitude is that EVERY game is must win.as right as that is we will only win the majority of our games, long term,by keeping our best players fresh.
He HAS to start resting aguero silva yaya etc or they will burnout over the course of a long season and that will ultimately cost us trophies.

I always half expect Sergio to pick up an injury as soon as he hits form but I have to say this has really deflated me this morning. Just feels like a huge blow to the season. Time for Bony to be told he will start a good few games regardless of form and to relax a little bit. I honestly still believe that a fully match fit Bony with a run of games has it in him to be a very decent back up to Aguero even if he has pretty much been wank in a City shirt so far.

I hope we do the same thing as last season and play a false 9 with maybe Sterling or Silva furthest forward as Bony ruins the shape of the team and completely sucks all the pace out of our attack a la Dzeko.

I won't hold my breath on Bony coming good. Has he even played one good game for us? He's been so bad that blues are getting excited about playing a teenager over him, a £30m striker.

Whilst it is not ideal I don’t think there’s many teams out there if their absolute world class striker gets injured they have like for like to replace. This is then the time for Bony to step up, I don’t think he’s anywhere near as bad as people are making out on here. If he has a few games now and still doesn’t offer much then agreed but it’s his chance to hopefully take now.

Take the second half of the Newcastle game out of the equation and Kun has had a very poor start to the season by his standards. He had missed a lot of chances, slipping every 5 seconds and wasn’t looking the player of last year and we was still performing well in the league. That’s my positive spin on it anyway although after the Newcastle game it’s disappointing as I am sure it was the springboard to another class season, we then have to bed him in 3-4 games when he returns until he is firing on all cylinders.
