I said it last year that if over the next 2/3 years we don't start seeing 3/4 of a season ( ideally a full season FFS ) out of Sergio, then we needed some serious back up. We didn't address it last summer ( mainly due to FFP I know ) but going into a season with 3 strikers, ( 2 of which we knew were injury prone - Sergio & Jovetic ) we did nothing - even bloody Dzeko then got injured. We finally signed Bony in January who then did what - oh yes, got injured playing for Ivory Coast.
We've passed it up again this summer, going into a season with only 2 proven strikers in Sergio & Bony, yes the youngsters may step up and possibly Sterling offers some type of cover, but it all seems very short sighted to me, the writings been on the wall for some time.
Well said, but there genuinely aren't that many great second/third choice strikers about.. Especially when replacing arguably the best striker in the world.
I quite like Berahino and he plays in a similar manner to Kun (more so than Bony anyway).. But again his asking price was a complete rip off.
