Aguero named to Ballon D'or shortlist

Why should Silva be in it?

He is not one of the important players in the spanish national squad. He is a member but was no key player in the last season.

In the EuroLeague ManCity did not get very far - and it is only EuroLeague, not CL. You were third in the Premier League. Was not Tevez your key player last year? The season 2010/11 is important - not the last 2 months.

Nobody is interested in the FA cup - Schalke won the German cup and went into the semi final in the Champions League - there is no Neuer, Huntelaar (who has the most goals in the EuroQualification), Raul in the list.

His stats with 31 scorers in 65 games are not very high.

Win the league, get far in the CL and let him play a key role at the Euro2012 - and he will be in the list next year.

laughable.

Only read the first two pages, but Silva has no right to be on it. As good as he has been this season (10 games), he didn't set the world alight last year. Won a domestic trophy yes, but so did Lee Bowyer.
I don't even see why Aguero is in it. Hopefully, if we continue to win this year, ending up with the league, last 8 of champs league, maybe they'll deserve it, but until then, there's no reason why the whole barcelona team shouldn't be in it.

That is just what I say. The list is about last year. And I know that Silva plays a great role in your team - but that really started this season not the last. But it is not league that counts in this list - it is about international appearance. World Cups, European Cups, Champions League, Europa League, Copa...

I can e.g. say that their is a couple of persons, that do not earn to be in it. Snijder not, Forlan not, Schweinsteiger not - they have not really been good last year - but I understand that they are in that list because of the performance of their national squads and their role in there. And maybe as aftermath of the World Cup.

I do understand why the talents - Neymar, Özil, Müller, Agüero are in it. At least the latest of the three have great stats - Özil and Müller really were the key players in most of the qualification games. Even with all that young crop coming out in Germany in the offense midfield - the likes of Schürrle, Götze, Reus to name as example - their place in the national squad is not in question at all.

That is last years list:

Xabi Alonso (Spain), Daniel Alves (Brazil), Iker Casillas (Spain), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast), Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon), Cesc Fábregas (Spain), Diego Forlán (Uruguay), Asamoah Gyan (Ghana), Andrés Iniesta (Spain), Júlio César (Brazil), Miroslav Klose (Germany), Philipp Lahm (Germany), Maicon (Brazil), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Thomas Müller (Germany), Mesut Ozil (Germany), Carles Puyol (Spain), Arjen Robben (Holland), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Wesley Sneijder (Holland), David Villa (Spain), Xavi (Spain).

The ones in bold were taken out - I think everybody else is still in it.

Suarez is new in because of being the best player in the Copa, Agüero because he is a talent and south american (a lot of south americans fell out), Benzema (a young one, Real Madrid, the only french, good stats), Neymar (Brazilian and Pele's love - do not underestimate football politics...), Nani and Rooney because Manchester United made the CL finals.

Even with 'football politics' Neymar being on there is a joke, there are so many more deserving players than him out there it is embarrassing.

Not to mention Wenger.

How the hell does being 4th and getting no trophies merit mention?

I do not know. All of the others I can explain.

Porto won the Europa Cup. Uruguay the Copa. Spain and Germany clean sheets in the EuroQualification - Löw that with a real young team. Klopp won the Bundesliga with a no name team of youngsters. Lille did something equal in France. Mou and Pep have to be in it. SAF has been in the CL finals.

But you look at it with Premier league eyes if you mention Mancini. There are a lot others that could be mentioned as the last one in. Van Marwijk e.g. who is coach of the Netherlands. Massimiliano Allegri the coach of Italian winner AC Milan. There is certainly a national coach that took a team to a surprise performance or any other coach of a winner of a smaller league.

Don't have an issue with players who are not in the list, have an issue with those who are.

For example, how onGod's earth is Fabregas on the list. Dude was injured for most of the season!
