Ahmad Benali ex City

Before people lay into him, I follow him on twitter and he always seemed a genuine blue. Maybe what he's saying is correct

Really makes me worry that we could spend all this money on the new academy but with crap coaches it'll produce nothing for the first team!

Trust me, our owners will take action if they feel the coaches are not top class.

Besides, the project has still only begun regarding our academy.

Lets not have a dig at the player just yet, he obviously knows more than any of us about the coaching setup that was here at the time he played for us. He could be bitter about not making it with us or he could be making a serious genuine point.

Our reserve team was shit for years before Welsh arrived, as was and is Utd's. It doesn't matter who wins that league or cup. They are all mostly shit & full of mostly average or poor players.

City produced players years ago, Utd produced & poached some a few years later, then it's been mostly Browns & OSheas for year after year.

City produced a pile of donkeys, thugs, thieves, fattys, drunks & rapists.

At last that is beginning to change.

Well done to him, he has stuck at it & made a career for himself.

But the thing is, he was ok, but nowhere near as good as quite a lot of kids who have passed through the academy since. We had comparitively less talent back then compared to what came through since. Many of them have fallen victim to the very things he mentions. There are posters on here who sometimes almost seem to get a kick out of declaring our ex academy kids as 'not even good enough for...' but some of these have turned in exceptional performances at youth/reserve level. They are not without potential these kids, even if we don't unleash it. They should be doing better.

If he can be playing in Serie A even at a low level, then plenty of others could be playing at a higher level than him.

I suspect getting away from this country to a more technical league with better coaches than most of our clubs, away from the Fat Sams & finding a club where he can actually get on the pitch instead of being sat on his arse, is a big factor.

Well done to him anyhow.

Well, if rumours are true and we've just got rid of Andy Welsh, it's not only this player who might agree that training and development were substandard over the past few years.
Wasn't he the clown that Hughes brought in and got rid the king maker Jim Cassell?

I will never understand how clueless was given so much weight in terms of decision making at the club.

You do wonder about the effect that money has on the younger players willingness to go elsewhere to learn their trade if they fail to break into the City team too. The average salary of a League 2 player is over £40k. Most of us would consider ourselves to have a fairly successful career if we were earning that. In League 1, that goes up to £70k and in the Championship, it's over £300k. But Chelsea have given a £1m a year contract to a player who hasn't even made a first team appearance yet. Obviously not all youth players are earning that sort of money, but it still might be the case that to drop down a level to prove yourself, you've got to take a cut in wages.

There is a massive range of wage deals across youth football and lower leagues. You can guarantee that in league one the top earners might get close to £1m a year but the vast majority will be on 'normal wages'. Even league 2 might have some big earners. Its the same in youth football. The best of the best at big club accademies will be on £m deals. I suspect we gave Denayer a decent package last summer and he is still to kick a ball in our first team - if he ever will!

P.S. Good luck to him - he's a blue.

Pretty sure this thread started in the season we decided the fuck the reserve league off so literally had no games apart from the next gen which we got knocked out of before christmas.
