Al Hilal (N) | CWC | Post Match Thread

Must have been the 5 million bonus for each player in Al Hilal if they win against us that did the trick. Heard that on X so I don't know if it's true. Cancelo must be sleeping soundly tonight.

If someone offered £50m for Dias I’d snap their hand off, hes turned into a complete liability he’s not improved since his first season and in the last two seasons has clearly regressed.

The likelihood is though he’ll get a new deal and we’ll get rid of akanji and ake.

Hopefully if anything tonight has shown our need for a right back and that will probably mean we see the back of Nunes or kovacic if pep decides he wants Nunes as a back up rb option.

Under no circumstances should we ever ben losing to a second string Al hilal though, it’s more embarrassing than anything else from last season.
We wanted Koulibaly and got Dias

Khusanov would of been torn to shreds tonight, no way is capable YET of competing against the guys who are in front of him if not he would be playing simples. He's an accident waiting to happen and looks like a rabbit in the headlights, just coz he's a youngster and we all want this fairytale of youth been given a chance does not make it right to throw them in and potentially damage them and us
Not sure why you think that. Apart from the mistakes against Chelsea he was fine.

He could not have been worse than any of our CBs in that game.

400m spent and that's the best we come up with...against Al Hilal.

Dias, Akanji and Ederson..it's time to go lads.
Thank you for mentioning those three. That keeper looks not interested to be playing for the badge need him gone and Akanji before the transfer window shuts knowing that Akanji is favoured by pep

The Ait-Nouri right back looked decent
Plus this is literally game 3. Remember the early Sane or Rodri days. Y’all wanted them gone. Turned into ok players. lol. Let’s give these guys a break, time off, allow the staff sort out the team, and give them time to changes need to happen for sure but I’m willing to wait a month and a half and see then.

We were torn to shreds, having pace at the back helps when playing with a high line. Walker was fundamental to everything we did. Akanji is horrendous

Ah well. Just a glorified Pre Season Cup. Means nothing. Let the boys have a rest.
It's not just the result.

I've just watched our shiny new left back - who is really exciting going forward - demonstrate a total lack of any positional awareness.

Making a move towards the opponent on the ball, who is fully 20 yards away, and leaving the guy running behind you on the halfway line is so basic. All the coaching in the world can't overcome such a total lack of any defensive instinct. Not having seen much of him last year, I was concerned when all the YouTube videos only ever showed him within 30 yards of the opposition's goal. Seems I was right to be.

How can players be called full backs unless they can defend?

This was our first defensive test, and the signs aren't great.

I think we 100% should be looking to replace half hearted ederson now though, he's just not cutting it anymore and it costs us massively

Just woke up and seen the score.

We've seen lots of encouraging things during these friendlies and a few concerning things. So, the same as every pre-season really.

Glad the lads are going back home with minutes under their belts and a solid 4-6 weeks off before the proper football starts again.

They aren't friendlies. This cost us 30 million

So we paid €40m for a rabbit in the headlights

They're a decent team with good players who are well above Championship level. They also have a top quality manager.
If it's us that can't defend and it's continually happening, maybe it's us that are the average team and this morning should not actually come as a shock.
So at the moment were just a little bit worse than some Saudi Arabian team of veteran's and South American kids who don't cut the mustard in their own leagues.

We are great when our opponents don’t cross the halfway line

Organisation isn't the issue.
Ake, Akanji and Dias just aren't up to it.
Can’t understand why Khusanov isn’t getting a run out!?

Pep does my head in sometimes. His favourites constantly get picked despite being wank and played like Khusanov (who is actually rapid and can play a high line) are totally bombed off.
