for me its a easy one THE JAM setting sons

220px-The_Jam_-_Setting_Sons.jpg

Side one
  1. "Strange Town"
  2. "Saturday's Kids"
  3. "Little Boy Soldiers"
  4. "The Eton Rifles"
  5. "Girl on the Phone"
  6. "Heat Wave" (Holland-Dozier-Holland)
Side two
  1. "Smithers-Jones" (Bruce Foxton)
  2. "Private Hell"
  3. "The Butterfly Collector"
  4. "Burning Sky"
  5. "Thick as Thieves"
  6. "Wasteland"
all the tracks minus heat wave can truly stand up today and "The Butterfly Collector" is so modern it could have been written last week

So you finally got what you wanted
You've achieved your aim by making the walking lame
And when you just can't get any higher
You use your senses to suss out this week's climber
And the small fame that you've acquired
Has brought you into cult status
But to me you're still a collector

There's tarts and whores but you're much more
You're a different kind 'cause you want their minds
And you just don't care 'cause you've got no pride
It's just a face on your pillowcase
That thrills you

And you started looking much older
And your fashion sense is second rate like your perfume
But to you in your little dream world
You're still the queen of the butterfly collectors

As you carry on 'cause it's all you know
You can't light a fire
You can't cook or sew
You get from day to day by filling your head
But surely you must know the appeal between your legs
Has worn off

And I don't care about morals
'Cause the world's insane and we're all to blame anyway
And I don't feel any sorrow
Towards the kings and queens of the butterfly collectors

Ditto for choice, but that track list is certainly way off the one I purchased on the day of release. ’Strange Town’ and ‘Butterfly Collector’ we’re not on the album - they were two sides of a single (released just before the album - I think).
Sides one and two seem mixed up and in a different order - the album (originally intended as a ‘concept album’) ended with a disc ‘filler’ in the shape of ‘Heatwave’ which seemed a bit disappointing at the time but proved to be an indication that Weller was going to move towards a dance sound in the future.
Nevertheless Ancoats, it was a great choice, a record that changed my musical tastes forever.

2 perfect albums for me, I never get tired of listening to

Rust never sleeps Neil young, acoustic first side if feeling chilled, rockier second side, if wanting a bit more noise ha

Blood on the tracks Bob Dylan, as a teenager first Dylan album I bought and still my favourite, even though then buying most of his earlier albums
