Alchemist

Been with the Mrs for food and a few drinks. Just going to echo what a few people have said that it is quite pretentious but i suppose it depends what kind of person you are.

I would suggest Neighbourhood which is just round the corner instead, good atmosphere, staff are decent and its a pretty vibrant atmosphere.

My mate at work has a mate that has worked in a lot of the bars in town and says to check out Manchester House? Apparently its a new place opened in Spinningfields and its meant to be really good for cocktails etc.

Id say Neighnourhood is even more pretentious than Alchemist. That Manchester house is on the top floor of the old tower block that looks over the Oast house. I doubt many people know its even there. You go in the entrance on the ground floor opposite costa coffee where there is usually a young philly on the concierge and she gets you a lift up.

Edit: Btw Manchester House is going to be the most select of the lot - its after a Michelin Star. A meal in there will be in excess of £100 per person

Who's the chef there who thinks he can gain a Michelin star?

Don't think ill ever be eating in there then! But its meant to be nice so don't see any reason why I wouldn't go for a few drinks with the Mrs.

It depends what you class as pretentious, I just see these places as a bit more civilised but it depends what kind of night your after.

I don't mind paying a little bit more for a drink to get away from the idiots on the locks!!

The Church Green in Lymm

I can see the problem with paying unreasonable high prices for drinks, but there is nothing pretentious about wanting to eat amazing food in my opinion. Yeah, its £95pp, but that is for a 12 course tasting menu and the stuff on it is amazing, stuff you would not get anywhere else.

Anyone been there?worth it? From the drinking standpoint not food ,Anywhere better for that style of place? Like cocktails and shit or whatever.

the bar is to the right as you go in - and the lavatories are at the back.

We've just booked our work Christmas lunch at the one on York street as we are pretty much next door to it. If you can hang on till December I'll give you a review if you like!
