Weve done our grocery shopping there for about 6 years now.
I bought these party lights recently but we had to cancel the party so I decided to take them back for a credit, I couldnt find the receipt but they were Aldi's brand and still sealed in the box, perfectly re saleable, so I thought it would be ok.

I went into the store and straight to the cashier and explained, she asked me for a receipt and I told her I couldnt find it but could I have a store credit. She seemed grumpy and refused saying no receipt no refund. I was a bit miffed so asked to see the manager, she dials a number and a guy comes out of a room, so I (in a friendly way) explained again he said the same as her, anyway eventually I said look these are your brand of lights still sealed (shrink wrapped box) and its only $25 , he still refused.
I said look Ive been shopping here for 6 years spending on average $6000 a year and if you dont give me a refund you will lose a customer.
He said 'whatever' and walked off

I went home and emailed head office about this and a woman rang me that day, she said the guy shouldnt have said 'whatever' but without a receipt they wouldnt refund my $25 so sorry about that...

They have now lost a $6000 a year customer.
Im amazed that they can be so arsey about such a small sum and be happy to lose a regular customer to the competition.
I have spread the word about their non existent customer service, and I begrudge the $30,000 Ive spent in there.

Have they pissed anyone else off on here ?

Not me. I don't do a regular shop at Aldi, or LIdl for that matter but I am a regular for special buys. Electricals with three year guarantees! I see Bosch have started that now! I have a fair amount of stuff, but my favourite is the pancake maker! The Aldi and Lidl shops round here are great, but I have yet to take something back. My steam mop conked out a few months back but it was outside the three yer guarantee so I couldn't complain! And Lidl do a fantastic low GI loaf - beautiful!

They'll probably suffer in the long run knowing they've pissed off a Blue! Were yer wearing Melbourne City kit?

They lose you but gain another when another supermarket pisses someone else off.

Victor Meldrew is that you?

It depends if you did a big shop when buying them or not. Stores can't insist on a receipt because there's no legal requirement to give a receipt, but they can insist on proof of purchase. So if you just bought those and have the bank statement accordingly then that should count.

Likewise if it's been recognised in a loyalty scheme transaction.

Still, the wider point is that it's a bit silly of them.

Not defending them but maybe the lights were a one off special buy and they would end up lumbered with them if they no longer have a section for selling them. I prefer Lidl and have returned a couple of items in the past with no issues, then again I probably had the receipt with me. I went there yesterday and didn't have a £1 coin or a token for a trolley, went to checkout to ask for the loan of a token but they just gave me a £1 out of the till and asked me to return it when finished, which I did. I think that's fairly decent of them.

It does beggar belief that they would be so arsey over $25, especially since you took the trouble to email them.

Can't blame you for taking your business elsewhere but if you can be bothered with one more email why not drop this fella a line, I've used this method on a few occasions, BT, British Gas, Green Star Energy amongst them and have had favourable results each time, don't go in guns blazing, just make sure he knows your annual spend with them.

https://ceoemail.com/s.php?id=ceo-8322047&c=ALDI Australia-CEO They don't like it up em.

After all if you've used them for so long you must be happy with the products, might be better than having to find your way round a competitors store.

Didn't know they had Aldi in the USA.

They're doing a roaring trade where I live in Missouri. They opened a second store here in town this past January and they're both always hammered. There have been times I've popped by just for a couple of things and not been able to park. Not quite as good as the better stores back home, ie special buys, but it's still my go to shop for essentials.
