Aleksandar Kolarov

Zabaleta was probably the best right back in the country for 2 seasons, possibly 3. Kolarov has never even been the best left back at City and his competition has been Clichy.
Maybe Zaba had a couple of top seasons in the 9 he had here, but the game left him behind at least a season ago and injuries hit him at just the wrong time. Kolarov is a different kind of player. IMHO, a better footballer. To each their own.

Is Kolorov actually going? I assume we'd let him go for free if he could get fixed up elsewhere. 3 or 4 year deal will do it for Alex.

We don't need any Python-esque stuff, we already have the surreal comedy that is you insisting that Kolarov has been a better player for us than Zabaleta.
I think I get what he's saying. Kolarov is technically a very good footballer and it could be argued in that regard he's better than Zabba but obviously you have to take into account the whole package and what each player brought to the team. In that respect it's not even close.

Can't see him going myself he won't get paid anywhere what he's on with us.
Aye but consider if he leaves next Summer when he's 32, what kind of contract is he going to get?

Random speculative numbers, but says he's on £100k/week now for 1 year, maybe next Summer he can get a 2 year contract on £40k/week.

If he goes this Summer, maybe he can get the rumoured 4 year contract on £60k/week, plus a signing on fee.

He'd be better off and more secure in the second scenario.

I guess he has to balance one year with us versus 3 or 4 years elsewhere. If hes on 100k a week with us - thats 5 milion but if he can get 60k per week for 4 years elsewhere - it might be worth a move.

One minor alteration made above, and the reiteration that Kolarov is, was, and always will be, a better footballer than Zaba, and you were spot on!

Kolarov is the ultimate flat track bully. Superb when you're 3-0 up at home to Norwich with all the time and space he needs to whip a killer cross into the six yard box.

He is a liability against a top side. No pace, no brain, no bottle and unforgivably no real effort!

Zabaleta is a fuckin' warrior who would run through brick walls for his team mates against any opposition.

I know who I would choose any day of the week.

But if you're easily fooled by a Screamer of a free kick once a season choose kolarov.

Yep, that's me...easily fooled by a screamer once a season.

Read your own words about Zaba and tell me where you mentioned "footballer."

I can't help it if you can't separate football from effort or in your terms, willingness to die on the battlefield and being a good shot!

As stated waaaay back, I love Zaba to death and hope he will become a City Ambassador when he is done playing. However, if I'm picking my 5-a-side team (or 11) and Kolarov is getting picked before Zaba all day, every day, and twice on Sunday. Like Pep, I like heart, but I prefer footballing ability.

We are clearly never going to agree, and I understand the love for Zaba...I share it...but that's not what this is about. So, given the stalemate, I'll bow out and leave you all to slag off a good footballer and servant.

Youre changing your own narrative. Your original statement was that Kolarov is a more complete full back than Zabaletta. I simply don't agree. Technically Kolarov is better but a more complete full back....no way.

Sorry we agree so much. My only objection is your last two words. So close. :-)

I've seen Zab being played as a left back in preference to Kola many times. I've never seen Kola being picks as a right back. I don't dislike Kola but at their respective peaks I know which one I would choose for my team.
