Alex Higgins

Love him or loathe him...looks like they are expecting a big turn out for his funeral on monday.

I work in Belfast City Centre and have just recieved this email...

Dear Colleague,

The funeral of Alex Higgins will be held on Monday 2nd August 2010 from the family home. The cortege will make its way to St Anne's Cathedral for a public service at 11.30am via the following route:-

Roden Street – Donegall Road (stopping momentarily at Abingdon Street) – Sandy Row – Hope Street – Great Victoria Street – Fisherwick Place – Wellington Place – Donegall Square North - Donegall Place – Royal Avenue – Lower Donegall Street.

It is anticipated that hundreds of people will line the streets to pay their last respects.

At approximately 1.00pm the cortege will then make its way to the Cemetery for a private funeral via:-

Lower Donegall Street – York Street – M2 – M5 – Shore Road – Station Road –...

With the exception of a section of Lower Donegall Street there will be NO road closures in the city centre. Traffic will be managed as the cortege proceeds through the city for the duration of both routes as required.

Please ensure that staff, colleagues and delivery drivers are aware of the inevitable delay into the city centre.

Thank you,
