I think that's what happened they put in a bid 30 minutes before the deadline and we immediately triggered our matched bid clause.

Benching him and giving him a couple of mins of derision in injury time might serve as a warning to the rest of the squad. Isak has behaved like an A1 **** and he has shat all over the club and the fans. I’m sure there’s no way back for him and he’ll get his move but what an appalling way to behave.

Liverpool smarting from the League Cup final and spent the intervening months plotting Newcastles downfall. Did similar with us after we pipped them to the title in 2019. That was when the PL were forced into charging us. John W Henry is one nasty ****.

Newcastle can't win here. Isak is a superb player - he's the kind of player who can give them a shot at going for the title, FA Cup etc. If he goes to Liverpool, it makes them favourites to win it for me.

Also, if Isak doesn't get his move it sends a message to other players who see clubs like Newcastle as 'springboards' - join us and we will stop you going to the likes of Bayern, Real, Barcelona and even rivals like Liverpool. I know for fans we don't like it, but players like Isak don't care a jot about which club they play for - they want money and medals and Newcastle have a small outside chance of medals. Liverpool could - potentially - offer him the PL, CL etc plus a wage to match.

That said, Newcastle have been held over a barrel. If Isak had said to them he wanted to leave in June they might've been able to wrap up a couple of deals first to let him go. As it stands, there's likely to be no one available.

One thing we've done really well is let any unhappy player leave without any problems and I think it's the best way to handle it. Players know if they come to us and it doesn't work out, we won't stand in their way and won't get arsey with them.

Personally, I hope Newcastle keep him and they nail Liverpool but I can't see it to be honest.

Why what did Delph do? He acted completely professionally, so much so that he turned us down after a fee had been agreed but then had second thoughts. He never forced a move or acted like a twat to get a move.
