Alexander Isak | Cried his way to a £130m move

It's not that simple. Naming a 150m price is a smart move by Newcastle. They know Liverpool can't pay it for non-financial reasons.

Again: theoretically, we can we pay 150m for Livramento. All day. But, practically, we can't. Doesn't make sense.

Of course we can pay it. Practically, impractically, with open arms, through pursed arsecheekd, with glee or a heavy heart! We won't. But that's a choice.

Liverpool are the same. They can 100% pay it. For fiscal, non-fiscal reasons, they would celebrate it as would their fans and the media. When the fuck did they ever have to care about perception, and when has it ever stopped them doing something they wanted to.

What's the difference in perception of them buying him for 120m, that 150m suddenly changes.

C'mon mate, I Know you are not naive.

It is also a totally fair price they have named btw. Not inflated or prohibitive. Neither Liverpool nor Isak can have any complaints, newcastle have been completely fair and transparent here.

Will they pay 150m?

You really don't understand the role of context, the difference between using modal verbs in theoretical and practical contexts.

Nominally, City can pay 150m for Livramento, practically they can't do it. I'm talking about what Liverpool can do in practical terms.
Cant is in an inability to do something, wont is a choice not too, for an example a person with no legs cant walk, a person who is lazy wont walk, its quite a simple concept really. Liverpool CAN pay 150m if they choose to, if they choose not to for whatever reasons they WONT pay 150m, its really quite a simple concept but thanks for your observations about theoretical and practical contexts but they really dont apply here

Think they will, with the help of the player drive it down to 130 with add-ons most won't know about. But imo wit will be damn closer to 150 than 120.

I think they won't. And Newcastle won't even negotiate at this point.

Hopefully.

But if that is the case, the player's actions will have played a big part in that, as it has now pushed them into a position of needing to appear resolute. From a far more flexible and open one, where they clearly were previously.

Even if they don't sign him now they will still likely sign him in Jan. This feels like a similar movie to VVD where they were told to fck off and went back for him in Jan.

They will sign him in Jan, similar to VVD. Isak isn't really playing for them anyway until Dec. He will fake another injury. There is also a possibility they would do a Gordon and no go back for him, remember Gordon nearly joined them last summer.

I think dealing with the saudis at newcastle is a diff kettle of fish to dealing with southamptons owners

It's a bit academic, but they weren't open to sell at any point, unless Liverpool were desperate enough to pay 150m and break the transfer record for a 2nd time in the same window, undermining thereby their stance against the "oil clubs".

Lets be honest, Newcastle are a stepping stone club. They are nowhere near the level of City/Liverpool/Arsenal they haven't won anything in 50 years and they can't compete for the league. Newcastle wouldn't qualified to CL if it weren't from some dodgy referring during Aston Villa United game. So no wonder why they have trouble attracting players and why their first team players would rush joining other clubs.

Let's be honest we have had players throw tantrums like this to join us, and I bet if we went for Bruno and Livermento and Newcastle held firm. They would do the same thing. Newcastle can't compete against us, Liverpool, Arsenal and Cheslea. Heck players would rather join a 15th United side over them which is really telling.

More likely next summer.

I hope Liverpool sign him

I think its easier to for CBs to face Isak than Etikite
I hope that is a tongue in cheek comment. For a start, Ekitike would probably play with Isak if they signed him..see Frankfurt where Ekitike played with Marmoush.

I don't think Newcastle are going to sell Isak. How can they? They have no replacement.

We are all guessing but my guess is that it won’t get done now (same as you) both sides have publicly dug their heels in. The only way that it might change is if Liverpool pay the full asking price. I think it might be a matter of principle with the Saudis now. It will be fun to watch either way!

Will he play though? Will he be as arsed if he was to play? Him staying and having no cash and being unable to play is worse than flogging him for big money with a view to replace him as quickly as possible.

I’d be happy if Newcastle stood their ground though, player power needs to stop but it also doesn’t benefit them in any way if they do.

No sympathy for the player, don't sign long contracts unless you are prepared to honour them. Totally with Newcastle on this, if they value a player at x amount why should they take less? I hope for Newcastle's sake that this does not get done now as they really don't have much time to bring in a replacement.
